PHONE FREE FRIDAY!

King David launched its first ever phone free Friday to encourage face-to-face interactions for all of us. To support our students and staff who may struggle to stay phone-free this Friday, we offered a selection of activities during the lunch hour: board games, dancing, basketball, karaoke... Spending time with friends in a non-digital space helps increase focus and is important for personal development.

SHOWCASING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT!

On Thursday evening, we hosted our annual Year End Celebration: Celebration 5784, where we acknowledged the accomplishments of our students.

The Atrium was filled with energetic parents, students, and staff eager to celebrate another phenomenal year! Recognition was given to outstanding student achievements across all grades and disciplines. Our definition of "outstanding" goes beyond the narrow scope of top marks. While recipients may excel academically, teachers also consider characteristics such as effort, improvement, positive contributions to the learning environment, resilience, and perseverance.

The audience enjoyed a pre-show concert by our Grade 9 music students, followed by performances from students in Grades 10, 11, and 12. The artistic creativity of our students was showcased throughout the school, and those in the Senior Foods program created delicious treats for everyone, highlighting their learning from the year.

We are incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work and persistence throughout this year! None of this would be possible without our passionate team of teachers and dedicated support staff!

AN UNFORGETTABLE TWO DAYS OUTDOORS

Our Grade 10 students had an absolute blast spending two days at the SOLE Outdoor Education Centre in beautiful Squamish, BC!

Our adventure was packed with challenging outdoor experiences. We dove into various team-building activities like Low Ropes, Archery, Rock Climbing, and Field Games. One of the highlights? Rock climbing with Squamish Rock Guides! Everyone pushed their limits and came out feeling like rock stars.

This trip wasn’t just about having fun (though we definitely did that!). It was all about deepening our connections and growing as a grade, all while enjoying the great outdoors. What a memorable experience!

Thank you to Marie Vondracek and Matt Dichter for leading the trip, along with her brave colleagues Rabbi Berger, Cale Macdonald, Esther Mogyoros, and Irit Uzan. A special thank you to Rabbi and Sarah Berger for organizing the meals and ensuring everyone was well fed!

HELP FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER! JOIN TEAM MAX!!

Register/Donate Here

As many of you may know, Max Koenigbaur, a member of our school, was diagnosed with brain cancer in December. B.C. Children's Hospital is hosting their annual "Race for the Kids" charity event on Sunday, June 9, 2024,

We have registered a team in support of Max, to raise awareness about brain cancer and to support B.C. Children's Hospital where Max has received his care. All of the proceeds will go to B.C. Children's Hospital to fund research, programming and caring for sick children.

Our goal is to encourage as many members of our school community to come out and join us on June 9.

AN ELECTRIFYING ADVENTURE IN SCIENCE CLASS

Science 9 and Science 8 Accelerated students constructed simple circuits with two light bulbs. Students experimented with the simple circuits and explored the magic of voltage and current. Working together, they had to troubleshoot and tinker, turning theories into bright ideas. This hands-on activity sparks curiosity, teamwork, and a love for science, making learning about electricity a blast!

RESEARCHING AMUSEMENT PARK PHYSICS

After a four-year break, Amusement Park Science is finally back at Playland! 32 students from Grades 11 and 12 attended the field trip, and learned about the science behind the amusement park rides!

TESTING CHEMICAL REACTIONS

The Science 10 Accelerated cstudents culminated their chemical reactions unit by creating a neutralization reaction using bath bombs! Special thanks to Marina Gass Groisman (Grade 12) for assisting with the lab.

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE!

Mazal Tov to our Math Contest winners! The Hoffman brothers took the top awards:

Noam (Grade 8) and Elan (Grade 11). Noam received an Outstanding Achievement award for being the top Grade 8 student in our school. Elan received a Certificate of Distinction for achieving a result that is in the top 25% in Canada in the Grade 11 contest!

OUR TERRY FOX RUN SURPASSES IT'S GOAL!

We had a wonderful Terry Fox Run! Over 200 students braved the rain for a 1.8km run/walk that raised over $4,000. The student council talked about Terry’s determination to help others by raising money for cancer research and how we all can continue doing that for him. The school had much energy, and students put it all into running and walking for Terry Fox. It was a terrific event and students and staff showed their kindness by donating money towards cancer research to help fight cancer for us all! All in honour of Miss Lane!
