THE OCEAN CLEANUP - SPREAD THE WORD!

Our Social Justice 12 students organized an event on Friday to support The Ocean Cleanup. The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, is developing and scaling technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. For over ten years, The Ocean Cleanup has been researching, extracting, and monitoring plastic pollution in oceans and rivers globally – with millions of kilograms removed to date. They aim to put themselves out of business once the oceans are clean.

Students wore blue and brought in donations to support the cause. During TAG, the Grade 12 students highlighted the impacts of plastic pollution and plastic exposure. They shared a short video, a few slides on information, and a fun kahoot, to help students learn about The Ocean Cleanup and how to take action to reduce and remove plastic waste.

The power of the crowd is what led to the start of The Ocean Cleanup back in 2013. Spread the word!

LEARNING FOR YOM HASHOAH

As part of our observance of, and learning for, Yom Hashoah (Vancouver Holocaust Remembrance Day), our Grade 8 and Grade 9 students participated this week in an exhibit tour and workshop, "Age of Influence - Youth and Nazi Propaganda" led by the Holocaust Education Centre.

Each exhibit tour includes an introduction, group activity, and interactive components. "Age of Influence" explores the Nazi's efforts to manipulate the attitudes of young Germans. The exhibition challenges viewers to look critically at both the messages and the techniques used by Nazi propagandists to influence youth.
