November 2022 eNEWS
In this newsletter I'll be writing about how to use Modeling Glass in your work, and hopefully answering some questions that will help you get the results you want. There's always a learning curve with a new product, and there are considerations working with frit and powder that you don't have when firing sheet glass. There is a full set of FAQs on the Modeling Glass website at www.modelingglass.com. You can also find back issues of all my e-newsletters there!
LOOKING FORWARD WITH GRATITUDE
Another year is almost in the rear view mirror, and I want to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has continued to enjoy Modeling Glass, post photos of your work on the Exploring Modeling Glass Facebook group, and generally been supportive of all things MG. Your enthusiasm and curiosity keep me thinking and creating.

As a thank you, I have developed a brand new project tutorial, one appropriate for the season, but which can be modified to be appropriate for pretty much any season! It uses snowflake cookie cutters to make wintry Modeling Glass wonders, which require only a single firing. High temp wire loops and mica touches add to the fun.

Feel free to share the PDF with other artists. This is something I want to give to everyone who might want it. Click on the image below for a link to the PDF.
2023 WORKSHOPS ARE ON!
I'll be dipping my toe back into teaching in 2023, though I only have plans to do a couple of workshops. As much as I enjoy working with artists, it's challenging because I actually have a day job. Add to the mix a large commission glass project I'm going to be starting next year (more on that soon). Overall, it's already shaping up to be a very busy year, so I am keeping my workshops fairly local. Here are the scheduled classes:

MAY 19-21 MILKWEED ARTS, Phoenix AZ

JULY 14-16 HOT FLASH GLASS, Albuquerque NM
Call Hot Flash for more info at 505-255-1151.
TEENY TINY FEATHERS
This is the time of year when sandhill cranes and many other birds gather at Bosque del Apache Wildlife Refuge a couple of hours south of Albuquerque. To celebrate this great annual gathering of the avian tribes, I made a batch of jewelry-sized sandhill crane plumes. Each one measures about 3" long. The feathers are hand sculpted and unique, made with Modeling Glass and Bullseye powders. No molds were used. Some will become pins, others will be set up as pendants.

If you’d like to learn how to make glass feathers, AAE Glass sells a detailed instructional video I made with them a couple of years ago. The basic process is the same no matter what feather you are making, you just use different colors of powders—and you may or may not want to use templates (this is covered in the tutorial). This is a great way to learn how I work with Modeling Glass as an alternative to attending a live workshop.
PEOPLE, BUY THE EBOOK!
YES, I APPRECIATE THE INCOME. But mostly, I want to help artists enjoy all the potential of Modeling Glass. I get a lot of questions that are answered in the ebook with great detail. It's worth it. Really. Order your copy here.

Modeling Glass
This product was developed by Lois Manno of Glass Bird Studios. It is a two-part system made of a powdered binder and liquid medium that, mixed with frit or powders along with a little water, turns the powder into a material that can be sculpted like clay. It is featured in the workshops she teaches.
