It is Really as Simple as that...
Scott Wagner

I am truly irritated with this "Occupy Wall Street Movement" that we are now seeing in the news. Hundreds of chronically unemployed people are out pitching a fit about their situation and wanting someone to fix it for them. Speaking out for your rights is a good thing, however, I think that the best thing for these people to do is to help solve this high unemployment and stagnant economy is to take the proverbial bull by the horns and become an entrepreneur. Small business is what makes our economy the world powerhouse that it is, and starting a business is a great way to solve the unemployment issue, but many of the people that I talk to everyday don't know where or how to start. Do you know someone that is thinking of starting a business? There are two easy steps to help them ensure their success; tell them to do the following:

1) Come see us at Forward Cody,

2) If you are unsure of what to do next, see number one above.

It really is as simple as that. We are here to help these fledgling businesses through the daunting task of starting up. We know the pitfalls, and what should be done because we have done this many times before and at Forward Cody we have a great track record of helping close to a hundred people on their path to becoming self employed entrepreneurs that in turn adds to the local economy.

There are few things in life that I enjoy more than helping someone to take those first steps towards achieving their dreams.

To reiterate my message this week to the supporters of Forward Cody:

1) Be a cheerleader for those starting a business, and direct them to Forward Cody, and...

2) Support Forward Cody in our current fund raising campaign so we can continue to provide the level of support that is given to the start-up businesses, and the existing businesses of Cody.

In a world where we juggle everything... work, family, bills and sometimes phones, here is a little advice from the trenches that will make life easier.
It is a visual world. The old saying that a picture is worth a 1000 words is truer everyday. Rarely does anyone have time to read more than a 25 word blip anymore, unless of course, your job is to do so. So how do you get out there to the wide world with your business and make someone pay attention? Simple. Use images. How many times have you flipped through a magazine and done nothing but read the short captions under the images that intrigue you? How many of you scroll through Facebook never really minding all the status updates, but when a picture catches your eye, you take a closer look.

Want potential customers to pay attention to what you are doing in this digital age? Then get images. Good images. No one wants to see a fuzzy, shadow plagued, who the heck is that or what is it image?sneaker.shadows
If you do nothing more, take great shots of your staff at their work stations and introduce them on your facebook page. If you have products, for heaven's sake take good pictures. Put it against a solid background, take some at different angles, download the free app, Photoscape and crop them, brighten them and resize them to fit. It is easy to do and you will see results.

If you are hiring a photographer make sure they know how to shoot the subject. Architectural photographers usually don't shoot fashion well and portrait photographers usually don't shoot products well, they are good at their speciality. Rely on their portfolios to tell you what that is.

Once you have images in hand, ready for the world to see, slowly feed them out to your clients via email with a short blip about your latest project or even just an interesting short fact.Post them on Facebook. Tweet a TwitPict. Send it to an editor. Having good images ready will make your life easier. You and your business will be more visible and ready to receive free press. Trust me it happens. When the call comes for an image from that certain editor, you will have one less thing to juggle. And your business just got the exposure it has been needing!
