General Membership Meeting

Please join us on Tuesday, April 23rd, for a special guest during our General Membership Meeting.

In recognition of Fair Housing Month, the Fairfax County NAACP is honored to have Susie McClannahan as our guest speaker. She will speak on 'The Fight for Fair Housing in The Region: Ongoing Challenges and

What We Can Do About Them.'

Susie is the Senior Manager of the Fair Housing Rights Program at the Equal Rights Center (ERC). The ERC identifies and seeks to eliminate unlawful and unfair discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations in Greater Washington, DC and nationwide. The ERC conducts intakes with individuals alleging housing discrimination and conducts systemic investigations into the local housing market. The primary investigative tool used by the ERC to identify discrimination is civil rights testing. The ERC has conducted fair housing testing for Fairfax County for the last several years.

The NAACP and ERC both participated in the development of the goals in the Regional Fair Housing Plan adopted last year. Eight local jurisdictions, including Fairfax County, came together to create the Regional Fair Housing Plan, which identifies current barriers to equity in housing and proposes goals to reduce those barriers. Susie will discuss the importance of new updates from HUD regarding its Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule and the Regional Fair Housing Plan, with a focus on opportunities for community members to support efforts to end housing discrimination in the region.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!
