Department leadership proudly inducted the inaugural class of the ECE Hall of Fame at a gala celebration held in Malachowsky Hall on Monday, April 22. Not pictured, but also inducted, was Chris Malachowsky (BSEE '80), who was unable to attend the ceremony. He appeared by video.

A diverse team led by three ECE Florida faculty members is set to receive funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to design and fabricate dynamic pressure sensors capable of performing at temperatures upwards of 800 °C (1472 °F), a factor of more than 6X higher than any integrated pressure sensor currently in use.

Renowned ECE Florida alumnus Sachio Semmoto, Ph.D., pioneering serial entrepreneur and futurist, was the guest of honor in a recent ceremony in Malachowsky Hall for the official creation of the Sachio Semmoto Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.

Walden C. Rhines Endowed Assistant Professor for Hardware Security Farimah Farahmandi has received an NSF CAREER award in support of her project “SAIF: Security Assurance through AI and Formal Approaches for System-on-Chips.” The project seeks to enhance the safety and security of microelectronics by creating an innovative AI-assisted security verification framework for modern complex system-on-chip (SoC) devices.

In a tribute to ECE alumnus David B. Vozzola (BSEE ’63), David E. Vozzola and Doreen M. Vozzola have established the David B. Vozzola Innovation Fund to foster innovation, research, and teaching within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. With the $125,000 philanthropic pledge, David E. Vozzola seeks to honor his father, a proud lifelong Gator Engineer.
