Special Times of Prayer

USCCB

National Day of Prayer for Peace
Date: September 9
In light of recent incidents of violence and racial tension in communities across the United States, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has designated a Day of Prayer for Peace in Our Communities to take place on September 9, the feast of St. Peter Calver. The bishops are asking all dioceses across the country to unite in prayer and participate in promoting peace and healing during this time of great strain on civil society.

Patriot Day
Date: September 11
This date is observed annually to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the United States. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001. Please take time for silent prayer to remember those who were killed or injured that day as well as continued healing and peace for their loved ones.

The USCCB website has a page titled 9/11 The Catholic Church Remembers which contains reflections and essays from eyewitnesses. Click here to read that page.  Also on the USCCB website is a message the bishops' issued following that fateful day. Titled
A Pastoral Message: Living With Faith and Hope After September 11, the message remains relevant as we reflect on what happened that day. If you wish to re-read, reflect on, and pray with the bishops' statement, you will find it on the USCCB website at http://tinyurl.com/3jggfp5

Help for Louisiana Flood Victims
The U.S. Bishops are asking dioceses around the country to assist the residents in Louisiana, both spiritually and financially, who are dealing with the recent severe flooding. Catholic Charities in the affected regions as well as Catholic Charities USA have been on the scene providing disaster assistance to the thousands of people who have lost or evacuated their homes. As many as 60,000 homes were affected. The work continues, even almost a month later. In the U.S. Catholic faithful are asked to conduct a special collection in September to support the work of Catholic Charities in Louisiana, or to donate at www.catholiccharitiesdpb.org/floods. Please look in your parish bulletin or call your parish office to find out more. Your financial generosity as well as your ongoing prayers for the people of Louisiana are so very much needed and appreciated.
