REVERSING SUN DAMAGE |
The sunny days of summer are now behind us, and many patients are coming to Derick Dermatology to express concerns about their skin’s over-exposure to the sun. With these patients, Dr. Derick and her staff usually discuss two topics: health and appearance.
Regarding health, Derick Dermatology wants everyone to have a full body skin examination at least once per year—or more than once per year if a patient (or a patient’s immediate family) has a history of skin cancer. Early detection of skin cancer is critical for increasing the odds of successful treatment. Please schedule your full body skin examination now.
Regarding appearance, most patients ask what are today’s treatments for sun-damaged skin and/or aging skin. Fortunately, dermatologists today have advanced tools and therapies to revitalize photo-damaged skin, reverse hyperpigmentation (such as sun spots, darkened freckles and melasma) and improve the overall tone and texture of sun-weathered skin. Derick Dermatology has an abundance of new technology and procedures to allow customized treatments based upon each patient’s skin type and the nature/severity of the skin condition that needs treatment.

| DR. DERICK IN THE COMMUNITY AND IN THE NEWS |
This month, Dr. Amy Derick won the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery’s “Pioneers of Healthy Skin” national video contest. Dr. Derick’s winning video explained why patients should understand the risk of choosing inappropriate providers of medical and cosmetic dermatologic treatments. Health and safety should come first.

Dr. Derick was recently quoted in an article about tattoo remorse—a topic with which she is familiar from her pioneering research that led to the co-authoring with Anne Laumann, MD of a tattoo study in 2004. The study has been cited on The View, in Time Magazine, and in other national publications. Please read Dr. Derick's latest comments here.
