Our Student Artists Need You!

School Board Approves 2019-20 Calendar
Earlier in the school year, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) said it was going to grant school districts greater flexibility to determine the definition of an "instructional" day.

District 153 was excited about possible alternative methods of learning such as internet-based lessons from home for students in special circumstances or on snow days. It now appears that ISBE is having second thoughts about granting such flexibility and still hasn't issued final rules for the coming school year.

The adopted 2019-20 calendar reflects our current knowledge. Please pay attention to the notes on the bottom of the calendar and stay tuned for more information.
7th-Grade Girls Make It to State
The James Hart 7th-grade girls volleyball team earned their way to the state tournament by defeating Columbia Steger in the sectionals March 4th. They fell to Urbana Middle School in the first round of the state tournament in a hard-fought match.

Congratulation, Panthers, on a tremendous season!
A Celebration of Dr. Seuss
James Hart welcomed kindergartners from Willow School on March 1st to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. After reading "What Pet Should I Get," they met some very unusual creatures courtesy of Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles.
Choose to Include Campaign at James Hart
The District 153 Special Olympics Team waged a campaign at James Hart during the first week of March to educate staff and students about the importance of respect and inclusion for all students including those with physical and intellectual disabilities. The campaign culminated on March 6th with the student body signing a “Choose to Include” pledge.
Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School invites all area students and young adults with disabilities and their families to its inaugural Transition Resource Fair, set for Tuesday, April 9, from 6-8 p.m. in the school’s South Building Gym.

The fair is designed to provide information and resources on education, employment, independent living, recreation, transportation, guardianship, plus government benefits and programs for young adults with disabilities.
Hot Dog! We love our guest readers.
Many thanks to the Homewood Public Library's Angela Messaglia (and her hot dog costume) for helping Mrs. MacLeod's kindergarten class celebrate their good behavior with a few stories about hot dogs and more.
Black History on Display at Churchill School
Churchill School wrapped up its Black History Month studies by staging its annual Black History Museum on Feb. 27th. Thank you to all the families who turned out to see our Bulldogs’ wonderful research and projects.
Order Your PTA Butter Braids by Friday!
Homewood PTA is again sponsoring a Butter Braid fundraiser in April, with pick up just in time for Easter and Mother's Day!

Butter Braids are a delicious treat for breakfast, brunch...even as a dessert! They are a great way to give mom a morning off from breakfast duty, especially on her special day. Just take the frozen braid out of the package, place on a cookie sheet overnight and bake the next morning.

Homewood PTA appreciates all of your help and the support of our fundraisers. All funds earned are used to benefit the students of District 153. Please consider ordering from this delicious fundraiser.
