North Kitsap Summer Sailing Camps
Sailing lessons will be offered again this summer for ages 8-18Camps will be held at the Port of Kingston next to the boat ramp.  There will be all-day camps for students 11 and older using a variety of boats, and half-day camps in the Opti boats for 8- to 12-year-old sailors.

Students must have beginner swimming skills and provide their own Coast Guard-approved life jackets.  The all-day classes will be conducted in Byte class sailboats, a 12-foot, self-righting dinghy that was developed especially for junior training.  The Opti is used for our younger sailors, and is a more stable design for our younger sailors, although it performs very well in a breeze.  Opti class sailboats have been used around the world for many years as a junior trainer.

The purpose of our sailing camps is to learn sailing skills, boating safety, and to have fun!  Please remember, however, that sailing can at times be dangerous and students must be willing to work hard each day.  Capsizing for the "fun" of it will not be tolerated.  A Coast Guard-approved life jacket must be worn at all times when on the dock and in the water.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, a beverage with extra water for hot days, swimsuit, change of clothes, soft-soled footwear (something you do not mind getting wet), sunscreen, sunglasses and/or a hat, and clothing appropriate for the weather.  Wetsuits will be used on inclimate weather days only; bring your own if you have one.  Opti sailors will not need wet suits.  On cool days, you may need extra clothing. For further information, call Parks and Recreation at 360-779-9898.
