CCFC Annual Meeting
You are invited to CCFC's annual meeting, Wednesday, November 13 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Carbondale Library community room. Please come and join us to hear information on the current state of YOUR cooperative grocery store, meet the new and continuing Board of Directors, and provide us with your comments and suggestions regarding the near and distant future of the CCFC. It's a potluck so bring something to share and your own plate, cup, and utensils to the meeting.

And if you're a member please don't forget to vote by Nov. 13 for three new CCFC board members. Stop by the co-op for a ballot or vote online (you received an email with links last week).
Holiday Gifts at the Co-op
Do you need to do some holiday shopping? Look no further than your local food coop. CCFC has some great gift items including housewares, candles, incense (Shoyedo), reusable snack bags (a new selection has arrived), and beautiful African baskets. And you can always get a friend or loved one a membership to CCFC, who wouldn't love that for the holidays?!

Co-ops Enter Mainstream America
Co-op grocery stores are finally easing their way into mainstream America. Joni Keefe of Farms Finest recently wrote a great article on food cooperatives for the Aspen Times, where she mentions our favorite food co-op - CCFC!

"Co-ops bring communities together by featuring products from the local farmer, rancher and artisan," Joni writes. "Corporate approvals are nonexistent because this is a system that operates for the people and by the people." Read the entire article at the Aspen Times.

Take Action: Save Local Farms and CSAs
Local farms and CSAs could face difficulty if new, burdensome rules are enacted as part of the Food Safety and Modernization Act. If the FDA adopts these rules, they will threaten basic organic practices such as the use of compost and require very expensive preventive and tracking methods.

The FDA shouldn't impose unfair burdens on local, organic, and sustainable farms. Sign a letter to the FDA to help protect our local farms, farmers markets and CSAs.

Consider Becoming A Member

CCFC members are CCFC owners! This is your store. CCFC members have a vote in elections, a voice when exploring new products for the store, and are encouraged to participate in making the cooperative a wonderful place to shop and gather.

Members can save money by ordering in bulk, and every

weekend members receive 5% off their purchases. Stop by to find out how you can become a member and support your local food co-op!

Sincerely,

Avtar and all the staff & volunteers

South River Miso

Miso is a nourishing, high energy, whole food that helps maintain health and vitality. Even today, in some parts of China and Japan, drinking miso soup every day is associated with a long, healthy life. Miso soup is said to alkalinize the body and maintain health by making it easier for the immune system to fight off disease.
