Helena Back to School Event:
Second Baptist adopts Helena Schools
Five Helena schools received more than $2,500 worth of school supplies from Second Baptist Church, Little Rock during a special event at the Eden Market Thursday evening, August 11. For the past four years, Second Baptist has worked with Ben and Leonora Newell and Together for Hope in Helena to host a back to school event at the Helena Community Center for children and their families. This year, Second redesigned their approach, identified the five Helena schools and provided tubs of supplies for each school. Through the leadership of Dot Flanigan, the Helena junior high media specialist, an "advocate" for each school was recruited for each school. Jim Maloch, lead organizer for Second Baptist, described the vision for this ministry to the group of 34 administrators, teachers and volunteers who participated in the celebration dinner. Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, Little Rock added supplies for the event, which has been given the name, "Shining a Bright Light."

Rayflections
When you witness the two week All Church Challenge in Helena each summer, you get a strong sense of God's presence as you see people's love for God and one another in action. More than 25 churches and 350 volunteers participated in this year's mission activities-swim camp, youth camp, Bible stories, crafts, Stories on Wheels, golf & soccer camp, and Blessings projects, such as home repair, and over 300 children and youth experienced a closer sense of Christ's love. Thank you, churches, for your participation in and prayers for God's redeeming work through Together for Hope!
