Why Mcdonalds? Why?

MMMM YUMMMMMY!

Mcdonalds just can't get it right.  You would think that it would be impossible to make oatmeal unhealthy, right?  Wrong.

4.5 g fat, 57 g carbohydrate, 32 g sugar

Ingredients: Whole grain rolled oats, brown sugar, food starch-modified, salt, natural flavor (plant source), barley malt extract, caramel color; Apples, calcium ascorbate; Dried sweetened cranberries (sugar, cranberries), California raisins, golden raisins, sunflower oil, sulfur dioxide (preservative); Milk, cream, sodium phosphate, datem, sodium stearoyl lactylate, sodium citrate, carrageenan.

Incredible.  How can they do this?  Why do they do this?  Some of these ingredients are preservatives that stop enzymes from breaking things down.  Unfortunately preservatives enter our digestive system and block the body's ability to break down food and absorb nutrients.  Other ingredients attempt to improve the oatmeal's texture or how it looks.  Mcdonalds also made sure to feed our sugar addiction with 32 grams to keep us coming back for more.  What a travesty!  Save your health, time and money.  Make your own!

To make REAL oatmeal:

Rolled Oats

Pecans

Vanilla Stevia

Water

Frozen Blueberries

Total time needed: 5-10 minutes (less time than is needed to drive to Mcdonalds and wait in line!)

Eat to Compete

I can't wait to get back in the sand!  I'm looking forward to competing against the best beach volleyball players in the midwest this summer!  At 31 years of age and a 6 years hiatus, I need every advantage possible, including nutrition.  Are you a runner?  Basketball player?  Tennis? Golf?  Eating right can help you be at your best!  Make sure that you eat a low glycemic source of carbohydrates before your workout in order to maintain blood glucose levels.  Some examples: an apple, carrots and hummus, a pear, or a peach.  You also want to add some electrolytes to your water to avoid cramping.  Try coconut water!  It tastes great and is exactly what your body needs when it is sweating.  Whatever your sport, good luck this summer!
