Hip, Hip, Hooray!

ConstantContact took pity on me and kept the old editor in service long enough for me to get one more newsletter out without having to come up with a whole new design.  Again, many thanks to you who sent suggestions and/or offered to help.  Now that I am finally back home, you will be hearing from me as we move to a new template design.

Due to COVID, there's not much new to report - so please take the time to read Glen's article about the upcoming Area 10 election.  Ballots are scheduled to mail November 1.

Glen and our incoming chair Barb Silvey are still working on getting email addresses squared away.  Until they do, Glen can still be reached at chair.area10@handbellmusicians.org and Barb can be reached at bellsinwa@aol.com.

Also feel free to look at the new material that came out of the Pacific NorthWest Handbell Directors/Musicians Forum.  It's a veritable treasure trove of good info.

We encourage you to share this newsletter with all of your ringer friends and urge them to sign up to receive their own copy.  It's FREE!

Events and concerts are added to our website between newsletters, so be sure to check the Events Page frequently.

ElectionNotes from the (Past!) Chair
Greetings

ELECTION ***** ELECTION ***** ELECTION ***** ELECTION ***** ELECTION *****

Yes, we finally have 4 wonderful candidates who have volunteered to spend a few years of their lives furthering the goals of handbell ringing in the Northwest portion of the United States (Area 10). While we attempted to get candidates from all the states in our Area, the final four come from Oregon and Washington. Running for the Secretary position are Julie Hunziker from the Yakima, Washington area and Shosh Meyer from Beaverton, Oregon. Our candidates for Chair Elect are David Ramsey-Warner from the south central Washington town of Wapato and Michele (Shelly) Giaier of Sunriver, Oregon. You might notice that in the Chair Elect race, we have our Washington Chair running against our Oregon Chair, so after the election we will be looking for a state chair replacement. Bios and pictures of the candidates will be mailed with the other election material.

And speaking of mailing - ballots and election material will be mailed by November 1, 2020 to all full members of our parent group, Handbell Musicians of America. The election will close on November 23, 2020 i.e. no ballots will be accepted with postmarks later than that date. For those of you who are directors of church choirs and whose churches are shut down because of the pandemic, please make arrangements with whoever picks up the church mail to get the ballot to you. The envelopes will be clearly marked as Handbell Election material.

I have personally visited with each of the candidates and am impressed with their desire to become part of the Area leadership. This is a very strong slate of volunteers and I will be pleased to work with the election winners for the next years.

Bell Tree with Handbell Choir Composition Contest
Good News!!!!!
The deadline has been extended into 2021.

New deadline to be announced.

The bell tree ringers from Into the Forest are sponsoring a composition contest for bell tree with handbell choir music. Deadline is August 15. Prize is $2000. The bell tree community is seeking music to help move bell trees from the periphery into the mainstream by seeing more bell trees playing with handbell choirs in concerts, church services, and other venues. We are defining the mainstream as handbell choirs who play level 2+ to 3 music and have 3 to 5 octaves of bells and probably chimes. We are seeking more music for this range. See attachments for more information.
