Greetings
The Executive Committee of Area 10 is pleased to announce the appointment of Corbin Rasmussen as our Idaho Chair. Corbin is a music educator at Rigby High School in Rigby, ID where he teaches 7 different musical ensembles. Two of those are handbell choirs, one of which is an auditioned elite group. In addition he is the Artistic Director for the Eastern Idaho Chorale, a community choir based in Idaho Falls. Corbin has a Bachelors degree in Music Education from BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, ID.
We are excited that for the first time in several years all 5 State Chairs are filled with volunteers ready to advance the art of Handbell playing. Please join us in welcoming Corbin aboard.
In other news, hats off to Diane Barnes, our Event Planner, and her team for the educational and entertaining virtual Area 10 Conference last Friday evening and Saturday, Area 10 "Goes Glo-bell". Besides the wonderful workshops taught by clinicians from around the world, the closing concert Friday evening presented by Emily Li's Elite Youth Choir from Hong Kong and Damian Lim's M.O.B. from Singapore was outstanding. If you'd like to review the Friday night sessions or listen to the concert here is the YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIheFKiEkNA The concert is about 2 hours and 49 minutes in.
Hope to see all of you ringing soon,
Glen Hascall

From the Chair Elect:
Hello to all the ringers and directors in Area 10! I am your Chair Elect. I am thrilled that you elected me to this position. I will serve 2 years in this role while I learn the ropes from Glen Hascall (past chair) and Barb Silvey (current chair).
Area 10 covers a lot of real estate. Many of you do not know me at all. I wanted this article to serve as an introduction.
I have been involved with handbells for over 35 years. I have been fortunate to ring in and direct some wonderful bell choirs while living in Michigan, Iowa, New Jersey and now Oregon. While living in New Jersey I was the Area 2 New Jersey state representative. Prior to being the Area 10 Chair Elect, I was your Oregon State Chair.
I live in Bend, Oregon. My husband and I retired here in 2014. I direct two handbell choirs there – The Bells of Praise at Bend Church United Methodist and The Bells of Sunriver at Sunriver Christian Fellowship. Both groups kept ringing through the pandemic and contributed to on-line worship. We are so hopeful that we will be able return to our pre-pandemic rehearsal schedule in the fall.
As we ease out of COVID restrictions, I want to encourage you to attend some of the Area 10 offerings. By the time you read this, the Area 10 virtual conference (Area 10 Goes Glo-Bell) will be over. So much work went into bringing that conference to you. We learned from a group of international clinicians and got to play in a virtual choir. The virtual choir was fun but I am sure we are all anxious to ring in-person? Check out the events listed below. Every state has something coming up. Get excited! Sign up! We can ring together again!
Your Chair Elect,
Shelley Giaier
