Happy 2013! It's a new year and there is lots of great news to share with you.

Congress is at an all-time high. Seventy-eight women were sworn into the House of Representatives on January 3rd and 20 women now serve in the United States Senate. We are profiling one new woman member each day on Facebook and Twitter, so be sure to follow us for the rest of the month!

While the percentage of women in state legislatures increased to 24%, women still fall short of the 24.5% record set in 2010.

Teach a Girl to Lead
CAWP is proud to announce a new, online initiative - Teach a Girl to Lead- to support and expand civic learning and engagement opportunities for girls and young women. This effort is a direct response to President Obama's 2011 challenge to the nations of the world to take action to empower women and girls. CAWP will collaborate with the give nowWhite House and the U.S. Department of Education to align this new initiative with the Administration's broader civic engagement efforts. Thinking of running for office in NJ? or working on a campaign? Attend Ready to Run™ NJ, a bi-partisan training program for women who want to run for office, seek higher office, work on a campaign, get appointed to office, or learn more about the political system in New Jersey. The program offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from prominent elected and appointed leaders, campaign consultants, and party officials about how to get ready to run. Topics covered include fundraising, navigating the political parties, working with the media, and developing a campaign plan. Ready to Run™ NJ will take place on Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd at the Douglass Campus Center, Rutgers-New Brunswick.
