Hunterdon County Division of Senior, Disabilities and Veterans' Services

From the Director

Hello friends,

Happy Independence Day! July begins with fireworks on the 4th, but we will keep the excitement going all month long at the Senior Center. On July 10th, there will be a chess workshop to get you started with the basics or give some tips to improve your game. On July 14th, as a special program for our veterans, we are thrilled to host Frontline Arts, an organization transforming military uniforms into paper. The Rutgers Extension Master Gardeners present the “Language of Flowers” on July 17th to discuss the history of using flowers to mark occasions throughout our lives.

Please join us for these and all our regular classes. Membership and pre-registration are required for onsite classes and specials, but they are offered free of charge. We look forward to seeing you in July!

Best Wishes,

Susan Nekola

Director

Senior, Disabilities, and Veterans Services

This spring we conducted the Division’s annual Needs Assessment. We received 164 responses and gained some insight into our successes and challenges. The biggest need identified is for outreach; increasing the frequency and means of communication with all of Hunterdon’s seniors. We are looking into ways we can reach more people and publicize our many programs and services. The next most significant need is for more virtual classes and local programming beyond the Flemington area. We are committed to finding new ways to bring you more classes on Zoom, in other parts of the County, and at the Senior Center. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey!
