Annual Back to School Health Fair & Backpack Giveaway

This past Saturday, September 7, Council Member Mercedes Narcisse hosted her highly successful Annual Back to School Health Fair & Backpack Giveaway at the South Shore High School Field in Brooklyn. Despite a cloudy start to the day, the sun made its way through, welcoming hundreds of attendees to the event.

The fair offered a variety of activities and services, including health screenings, mental health resources, zumba sessions, sports exhibitions and a range of fun-filled games for children and families. Attendees also enjoyed music, food, and giveaways, including hundreds of backpacks and school supplies to help students get ready for the upcoming school year.

Council Member Narcisse expressed her gratitude to everyone involved, saying, “It was incredible to see our community come together to support one another. The turnout and the positive energy we saw today was extraordinary. I thank all the staff, volunteers, and supporters who made this event possible.”

The fair aimed to ensure families were not only prepared for school but also equipped with health resources and information to start the year on a fun and positive note.

Pop-Up Backpack Giveaway at "We Got The Scoop" in Marine Park a Sweet Success

Council Member Mercedes Narcisse had an incredible time at last week's pop-up backpack giveaway, hosted at the family-owned "We Got the Scoop" Ice Cream Shop in Marine Park. It was heartwarming to see so many smiling faces as the kids received their backpacks and school supplies, while also enjoying delicious free ice cream.

This was our most successful pop-up of the season, with over 100 backpacks given away

Council Member Narcisse offers a huge thank you to We Got the Scoop for welcoming us, and to everyone who came out to make this day special. We also want to give special thanks to Millennium Development and Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce CEO Randy Peers for their invaluable support in making this event possible.

And remember, kids—you all promised Council Member Narcisse that you would work hard and do your best.
