Malaysian Mother Denied Custody of Children due to Conversion Laws

1/7/2016 Malaysia (Malaysian Insider)

A mother of three in Malaysia had been divorced by her Muslim ex-husband for reasons unknown at the moment in the past couple of years. During the process the father had forcefully converted their three children to Islam in an effort to gain full custody. The mother M. Indira Gandhi, a Muslim herself prior, wished to convert to Christianity to marry her new boyfriend but has not been able to on the account that she does not possess the required religious documentation ordered by the Malaysian government. The court system has skirted the issue and will likely pass the case over to a Sharia court as they consider the matter of conversion to be a religious issue rather than a civil case. Since it will likely be referred to a Muslim court of law, the likelihood of her receiving the proper conversion papers are slim. She currently has custody of only one of her three children as the courts again have intervened stating they are Muslim which gives the Muslim father custody.

  • Pray that God would do a miracle and allow M. Indira Gandhi  to receive the proper conversion papers and gain custody of her two other children
  • Pray that God would strengthen and encourage the small number of Malay Christians
  • Pray for an end to the ever-increasing pressure on Malaysians to adopt sharia law

Church in Guizhou China Ordered for Destruction by Court
1/6/2016 China (China Aid)

Guizhou province in China has been very active lately on the house church front. The Huoshi church has been raided, fined, threatened, and seen members detained by authorities since October of 2015. The Huaqiu church has been facing legal struggles since July of 2014 as the Bureau of Land and Resources in Tongszi County issued a notice stating that the church building was constructed illegally regardless of whether members garnered the proper documents. According to those attending the house church, a major reason for the government's response is due to their defiance in registering as a Three-Self church which is the government sponsored church of China.

Christian Woman Fleeing Persecution in Pakistan Dies in Prison in Thailand

1/5/2016 Thailand (Christian Post)

Samina Faisal, a 30-year-old Christian woman who fled from the violence and persecution in Pakistan died in Thailand police custody on Christmas Eve after she was arrested and prevented from taking much needed medications. Due to intense persecution faced by Christians in Pakistan, thousands of Christians choose to sell their possessions and flee to Thailand as asylum seekers. Unfortunately, Thailand does not recognize these Christians as asylum seekers and instead imprisons them as illegal immigrants. According to the British Pakistani Christian Association, Samina Faisal was denied medication she needed for a heart condition while she was detained by the Thai authorities. This denial of medication reportedly led to this woman's death.

  • Pray for the comfort of friends and family of Samina who are grieving her death
  • Pray  for Pakistani refugees who are fleeing persecution and yearn for freedom but have little hope
  • Pray that leaders in Thailand will have compassion on those who seek safety in their country and recognize Pakistani Christians as asylum seekers
