700 Kenyans Quit Al-Shabaab, Return Home

10/21/2015 Somalia (All Africa)

700 Kenyan men have quietly returned to their native country after leaving the Islamic terrorist group known as Al-Shabaab in Somalia. Reports indicate they have returned home because the deals which they were promised were not as lucrative as they believed. Many of the 700 men are between the ages of 24-35, with many returning injured and maimed. Many in Kenya fear that although they have "quit" the terrorist organization, they have returned home with military training and likely a radicalized ideology. Regardless of their true intentions, Christian communities in Kenya will be weary of their reintegration into society as Al-Shabaab is notorious for targeting Christians and other religious minorities.

  • Praise God for the return of the 700 Kenyan man that are returning to their families and homes
  • Pray that the returning men will repent for their ways and accept Christ into their hearts
  • Pray for Christian village leaders during this time of transition; pray that they will be able to help love the returning men and win their hearts to Christ

Nigerian Army Earn Victory Against Islamic Terrorists

10/20/2015 Nigeria (Vanguard)

30 Islamic terrorists of the notorious Boko Haram were killed by Nigerian military and local vigilantes on the border of Adamawa and Borno states. Boko Haram continues to attack local villages in the region in their continued pursuit of an Islamic caliphate and the elimination of religious minorities, primarily Christian communities. The Nigerian military has been a major piece in the African multi-national task force assigned to seek out and eliminate the terrorist group. Nigerian President Buhari has vowed to defeat Boko Haram by December and if the pledge is not met, he will remain to fight them himself. Boko Haram continues to prey on Christian communities in northeastern Nigeria, but has also begun to target the Muslim population as well.

  • Praise God for the success the Nigerian military has seen against Islamic terrorists, Boko Haram
  • Pray that God will continue to give Nigerian President Buhari divine wisdom and guidance to fight back against Boko Haram
  • Pray for the thousands of Christian communities that have been forced to flee due to Boko Haram attacks

Aceh: Three "Illegal" Churches Torn Down, More to Come

10/20/2015 Indonesia (Asia News)

Hard-line Muslims in Indonesia's conservative Aceh province demanded on Sunday that the local government close 10 Christian churches, just days after a mob burnt down a church, leaving one person dead and several injured. As predicted, Islamic radicals have coerced the local authorities into not only closing down the churches temporarily, but in actually razing the buildings.  The fact that some of these churches did not have the appropriate permits is relevant, but they had applied to the government for them - an extremely difficult and onerous process - and had never been given permits.  The whole church building permit process (IMB) is unfair and runs counter to religious freedom, which is promised to all citizens in the Indonesian constitution.

  • Pray that the violence will cease and that there will be no further incidents in Aceh
  • Pray for the hundreds of Christian families who have fled the region
  • Pray that talks between local government officials and religious figures to be taken place on Sunday will be successful

Religious Freedom Abuses at Risk of Increasing in Vietnam

10/19/2015 Vietnam (Christian Today)

Religious freedom in Vietnam could be at risk of greater restrictions as the draft Law on Belief and Religion is finalized this month. It is the fifth draft version of the legislation, and its finalization follows concern expressed by religious leaders that the Vietnamese population will be subject to increasing restrictions, according to Global Risk Insights. The new law could spell trouble for Christians and other religious adherents as these laws have been written by atheistic government officials.  The real purpose of such a law may be to extend the government's control over all religious activities.

  • Pray that God would intervene and that the legislation would not be written by an atheist government and officials without religious experience
  • Pray that if the legislation is passed that there will be fewer application requirements for religious groups, which it said are used "for the purpose of controlling, restraining and cornering religions"
  • Pray for the freedom of a number of advocates for religious freedom imprisoned in Vietnam

ISIS Barbarity: How 100,000 Christians Fled Mosul In ONE NIGHT

10/19/2015 Iraq (Express)

A priest who has been one of the leading figures in caring for the displaced people of Iraq shares how overnight 100,000 people fled their homes. As ISIS jihadists carried out a genocidal cleansing, entire villages of Christians and Mosul city were emptied of communities who had lived there for more than 1,500 years. Now, more than a year later, many are fearful that they will never return.

  • Pray for the children and families facing displacement and persecution in Iraq
  • Pray that aid organizations like International Christian Concern would be able to meet the needs of this vulnerable population
  • Pray for leaders and politicians and those who seek to negotiate for peace, whose responsibility is more than we could bear

Crowd Joins Christian Coach on Field for Prayer After District Bans Student Participation

10/19/2015 United States (Christian News Network)

As previously reported, Bremerton High School's football coach, Joe Kennedy, was banned by the school district from allowing students to join him in post-game prayers. However, after last week's game, many supporters from the crowd left their seats to join him on the field in prayer at the conclusion of the game. Although the coach agreed to stop leading prayers in the locker rooms, he maintains that he is doing nothing wrong in his post-game prayers because anyone joining him is doing so voluntarily.

  • Praise God for Joe Kennedy, a high school coach who has the courage to stand for Christ's name
  • Pray that the Joe Kennedy's example will inspire other students to follow Christ and be bold for His name
  • Pray for a revival in the United States; pray that the nation will repent for rejecting Christ as a nation and turn back to Him
