Senior Citizens' Centers

Effective December 1, 2023, the two Amherst County Senior Centers have merged and are meeting at the Coolwell Community Center, Monday through Thursday mornings from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The schedule of activities varies greatly, including table and card games, covered dish lunches, arts and crafts, local shopping and sight-seeing trips, nutrition specialists, health screenings, and an assortment of other special events.

Call the Recreation Department at 434-946-9371 for a monthly calendar. Get involved! Bring your friends and make new ones!

Join Second Stage Amherst and Andrea Plunkett for a VISION BOARD WORKSHOP!

Make your dreams a reality with this thoughtful, insightful, and therapeutic workshop. Design and craft your own personal vision board to help you achieve goals for 2024 or a specific upcoming event.

Your coach, Andrea Plunkett, is a dreamer, connector, cheerleader, and Visoneeer! She coaches others to think big and walks beside them to catch their vision in business and their personal life. She knows what it is like to start over and dream again and she wants to help others do the same. “All you need is 1 person to believe in you - and I want to be that person!”

$30/PARTICIPANT ALL MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED.

Feel free to bring personal items that you would like to include in this project.

*There is a minimum registration requirement in order to hold this event. Should this event need to be rescheduled, payments will be transferred or refunded at purchaser's discretion.

Saturday, February 3 - 9AM-1PM

We invite you to join us for Amherst's makers, crafters, bakers, and producers market!

Inside booths - 8’ x 8’ - $20

Outside booths - 10' x 10' - $15

Setup will be held from 7-9AM on February 3. Round and rectangular tables will be provided for indoor booths on a first-come, first-served basis. You are welcome to bring your own tables.

Please complete this form and remit payment in order to reserve your space. Upon receipt of payment, you will be contacted to select your booth placement, based on a first-come, first-served basis. SPACES WILL NOT BE RESERVED UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED.

Charlottesville Jazz singer Stephanie Nakasian and Richmond pianist

Lucy Kilkpatrick, with Karl Kimmel, bass; and Keith Willingham, drums; 

will perform a tribute to black blues and jazz singers of the 1920s,

Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey, and women singers through the

​big bands era and even a little “Bop.”

The duo, with Ed Mikenas, bass, and Nick Moore, drums, will perform a concert built around Smith’s Mary Lou Williams Resurgence Project. ​Williams (1910-1981) was an American jazz pianist, arranger, and composer who wrote hundreds of compositions and arrangements for Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman and recorded more than one hundred records.
