UCSF Celebrates Disability Pride Month



July 26 marks the 34th Anniversary of the American Disabilities Act confirmation into law in 1990. Disability Pride Month in July recognizes this moment and ongoing community activism, advocacy, and unity in creating pride in all abilities.

UCSF teams at AIDS Walk San Francisco 2023

Support UCSF AIDS Walk Teams



Nine teams from UCSF will take part in AIDS Walk San Francisco on Sunday, July 21. Since 1987, the annual event has raised over $96 million for programs and services that support people living with AIDS or are HIV-positive. This year, the UCSF goal is to raise over $75,000. Support UCSF Teams with a $25 donation and receive a free t-shirt and lunch at the walk.

Gender Recognition and Lived Name Policy Story Series Raises Awareness



Lusirena, Clinical Research Supervisor, Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases & Global Medicine, shares their experiences in the third story in a UCSF series.

The UC Presidential Policy on Gender Recognition and Lived Name (GRLN) works to make sure all are identified by accurate gender identity and lived name.

Yosili Mendoza, Flora Ramos Cruz, Lucinda Matias, Andrea Martin

First Certified Mam Health Care Interpreters Graduate


Yosili Mendoza, Flora Ramos Cruz, Lucinda Matias, and Andrea Martin graduated in June as the first certified Mam healthcare interpreters from the City College San Francisco Healthcare Interpreter Program. The new interpreters were funded in part by the UCSF Pediatrics Department Social Justice Grant and supported by Benioff Children's Hospital (BCH) Oakland Interpreter Services Teams. More than 15,000 Mam speakers reside in Oakland with more than 1,000 interpretation requests to BCH Oakland annually.
