BALTIMORE (October 4, 2022) — The Downtown Sailing Center (DSC) will hold its annual Ya Gotta Regatta on Baltimore Harbor the afternoon of October 8th. Spectators are invited to the Baltimore Museum of Industry pavilion off the DSC Docks for a celebration of sailing with live music, cash bar, food trucks, raffle and an afternoon kids zone.
The regatta has two classes of racing for competitive one-design and performance yachts, as well as multiple classes of adaptive racing for sailors with disabilities. Boats racing in the regatta will be visible from Ft. McHenry and Canton Waterfront throughout the day with adaptive dinghy races off the DSC docks.
Festivities include:
9am - 4pm, Ya Gotta Regatta races take place on Baltimore Harbor
3pm - 4pm, Sailors return to DSC Docks
3pm - 5pm, Kids Zone in front of BMI Pavilion with boat making for rain gutter regatta and other activities
4:30pm - 5pm, regatta awards and Kick-off Celebration of Sailing
5pm - 8pm, Live music by the Hot Club of Baltimore jazz band
Sailors from across the Chesapeake region will join in the regatta, which raises critical funds to support the DSC’s outreach programming to make the sport of sailing inclusive and accessible for all. Twenty-one sailors with disabilities will be racing in the adaptive sailing track. Youth and women led teams will also be representing various DSC programs.
The DSC was founded in 1993 with the mission to make Baltimore’s greatest natural resource accessible for all through the sport of sailing. This past year, the DSC welcomed over 1,000 guests, many of whom from under-served communities, and hosted over 300 junior sailors through its summer camp. The DSC also provides affordable membership levels with an emphasis on volunteerism, and provides classes and private instruction for anyone wishing to learn how to sail.
