Urban League of San Diego County Receives a $20,000 Grant from Bank of America to Strengthen Community Health Workers Programming

San Diego, CA—The Urban League of San Diego County (ULSDC) is proud to announce receiving a generous $20,000 grant from Bank of America. This funding will significantly bolster the organization’s Community Health Workers (CHW) programming, which enhances health outcomes and provides critical support services to underserved populations in the San Diego area.

The grant from Bank of America will enable the ULSDC to expand its CHW program, which is crucial in bridging gaps in healthcare access, education, and resources. Community Health Workers are vital in advocating for and connecting individuals to essential health services, promoting wellness, and addressing social determinants of health that impact the community.

“We are incredibly grateful to Bank of America for their continued support and investment in our mission,” said Al Abdallah, President and CEO of the Urban League of San Diego County. “This grant will allow us to strengthen our Community Health Workers programming, ensuring that more individuals and families have access to the health, wrap-a-round services, resources, and support they need to thrive.”

Bank of America’s contribution is part of its commitment to advancing economic mobility and social progress in communities nationwide. Bank of America aims to address critical needs and drive positive change by supporting organizations like the Urban League of San Diego County.

“Bank of America is committed to partnering with organizations that are making a tangible impact in our communities,” said Rick Bregman, Market President at Bank of America. “The Urban League of San Diego County’s Community Health Workers program is a vital resource for many, and we are proud to support their efforts to improve health outcomes and quality of life for residents in San Diego.”

The ULSDC’s Community Health Workers program provides culturally competent health education, advocacy, and linkage to healthcare services. This initiative is especially important in addressing health disparities and ensuring that all community members have the opportunity to achieve optimal health and well-being. The Bank of America Economic Mobility for Individuals and Families allows ULSDC to use the funds to build access to healthcare, family stabilization, and services for the very low-to-moderate income and homeless populations using the Community Health Workers as trusted messengers and the promotoras model. ULSDC is well-positioned to provide services to the community, especially during social unrest, environmental justice impacts, and global warming. The agency’s Community Health Workers have become known as trusted messengers in the region through grass-rooted efforts by those who experience first-hand support navigating access to crisis prevention and wrap-a-round services, including safe shelter, transportation, and financial assistance and recovery.
