Roll up your sleeves and join Root for Trees and Tree Canada at “Let’s Get Dirt-y!”

July 18, 2024

Calling all single spruces and paired pines! Root for Trees and Tree Canada are hosting a tree planting event in Edmonton this weekend. Participants will connect with Edmonton’s urban forest, enhance local biodiversity and engage in activities alongside fellow nature enthusiasts. The event will take place in the Cameron Heights neighbourhood, offering a picturesque backdrop for an afternoon of soulful music, delicious snacks and tree planting.

"Root for Trees is excited to partner with Tree Canada to empower Edmontonians to make a tangible difference in their community and be part of contributing to Edmonton’s target of having two million trees planted by 2030," said Kortney Tompkins, Team Lead of the City’s naturalization program.

By hosting this event, Root for Trees is excited to introduce tree planting to residents who are new to the initiative. Participants will receive guidance from arborists and environmental educators, ensuring that each tree planted contributes to the long-term health and beauty of Edmonton’s natural surroundings.

“Tree Canada’s mission is to inspire and enable more Canadians to plant and nurture trees. The trees planted at this event with Root for Trees will provide environmental and social benefits to the area for years to come. As a token of our appreciation, we’re happy to offer free local food and entertainment to volunteers,” said Robert Henri, Director of Communications and Brand, Tree Canada.
