The City of Edmonton’s River Valley Park System was announced as a finalist in the Attraction of the Year category at the 2024 Edmonton Tourism Awards. The award program celebrates success, leadership and innovation in Edmonton’s tourism.
“Edmonton’s River Valley Park System is a jewel in our city. It is a place that all Edmontonians can access and enjoy. It plays a key role in our city’s identity and our reconciliation efforts,” said Mayor Amarjeet Sohi. “We’re honoured to be recognized as a finalist for Edmonton’s best Attraction of the Year. This is a testament to teamwork, collaboration, continued commitment to conservation, environmental stewardship and our goal of achieving The City Plan. We are building a beautiful and sustainable city that is inviting to visitors and Edmontonians are proud to call home.”
Edmonton’s renowned River Valley Park system is home to many of Edmonton’s signature parks and unique attractions, connected by an extensive trail network of more than 160 kilometres. The North Saskatchewan River Valley and Ravine System is a protected, connected, ecologically resilient landscape that preserves collective history, offers urban nature experiences, and promotes healthy living through diverse opportunities for recreation and active transportation.
“The River Valley offers countless free and low-cost activities for all seasons, including skating, tobogganing, hiking, paddling, picnics, bike rides, festivals, parties and reflective walks. These opportunities draw visitors to Edmonton and generate substantial economic revenue for our communities,“ said Rhonda Norman, Director of River Valley and Horticultural Facilities. ”It is a place that supports the health and wellness of people. We are so honoured to be nominated for this award and for those who have never visited the River Valley, we hope this has piqued your interest to come and check it out!”
The City’s Discover YEG Map is a comprehensive tool that allows visitors and Edmontonians to explore the parks, trails, boat launches, off-leash areas, attractions in the River Valley and more.
