Rochester, NY–June 22, 2024–What an incredible opening night for our 21st Edition! Crowds filled the streets and venues on a beautiful summer evening.
Tonight, the Lee Rutenour Band, with Special Guests Randy Brecker & Bill Evans, headlines at Eastman Theatre at 8 PM. Tickets are still available online up to show time at RochesterJazz.com, at the RIJF Ticket Shop at 105 East Ave, or at the Theatre's box office, which opens at 7 PM.
Enjoy 10 free shows today, including Christone "Kingfish" Ingram headlining at 9 PM on the East Ave & Chestnut Stage, presented by the City of Rochester. The show is free; no tickets are required. And we have a full lineup in the 12 Club Pass venues. The nightly Jam Session at the Hyatt Regency Rochester's Astor on the Main will wrap up the night.

Lee Ritenour Band Headlines Tonight at 8 PM

For Lee Ritenour, there aren’t many ‘firsts’ left to achieve. During his dazzling five-decade career, the fabled LA guitarist has taken his music to the outer limits, alighting on every genre and occupying every position in the rock ‘n’ roll firmament. He’s been an enfant terrible of ’70s fusion, a crossover star of the ’80s pop chart, an honorary exponent of Brazilian jazz, and the fingers behind ’90s supergroup Fourplay. Ritenour’s accolades include 45 albums,16 Grammy nominations, Alumnus of the Year at USC, Los Angeles’ Jazz Society Honoree (2019), plus thousands of sessions with legends such as Frank Sinatra, Pink Floyd, B.B. King, and Tony Bennett, among others.

With his jaw-dropping guitar playing and his reach-out-and-grab-you-by-the-collar vocals, he performs every song with unmatched passion and precision. Kingfish delivers contemporary blues music that speaks to his generation and beyond, bringing to bear the full healing and hopeful power of the blues. Now, Live In London captures Kingfish’s lightning in a bottle. It’s an onstage snapshot of the young singer, songwriter, and guitarist creating musical magic in real time, leaving his listeners spellbound and always wanting more.

Hailed by Downbeat Magazine as "The Jazz Warrior-Goddess" with "a skill and ferocity unmatched by all but the most accomplished of pianists," 27-year-old piano wizard and composer Connie Han interprets the jazz piano pantheon with her own fiery, contemporary style, with an interpretation that belies her age. Gwilym Simcock & Tommy Smith
Gwilym Simcock has carved out a career as one of the most gifted pianists and imaginative composers on the European scene. Tommy Smith is a phenomenon. One of the finest jazz musicians of his generation, Smith’s prolific career began with his first album, Giant Strides (1983), when he was only sixteen. Electric Kif
The Miami-based power quartet explores the boundaries between rock, jazz fusion, and electronic drum & bass.
With bassist Rodrigo Zambrano, keyboardist Jason Matthews, drummer Armando Lopez, and guitarist Eric Escanes, Electric Kif formed as an outlet for the musicians to stretch out and be themselves between recording sessions and touring with other artists. Led by Mike Cottone on Fridays and Saturdays and by Bob Sneider and his Trio Sunday through Thursday. At the Hyatt Regency Rochester's Astor on Main. Free, no cover. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Park in South Ave Garage.
