Titan Family and Friends,

We hope that all of our Titan families have settled into this new school year well. We are looking forward to Homecoming Week and the fun it will bring! First, we would like to take a moment to share with you the highlights of our recent Board of Governors meeting held Monday, September 11th:

  • Guest Speaker, Dr. Bonnie Holliday, with Georgia Charter Schools Association - LOA was fortunate enough to have guest speaker Dr. Bonnie Holliday, PhD and Chief Strategy Officer for Georgia Charter Schools Association(GCSA) with us for the meeting. Dr. Holliday spoke to the board about best practices that Charter School Boards should follow. She praised Lake Oconee Academy - stating that it has a pristine reputation as a charter school across the state, further validating that LOA is, “held up as what we call a ‘Lighthouse School,' a benchmark example of what every school should strive to be. You should be proud of the community,” she concluded. Dr. Holliday focused on 6 points:
  • Legal Obligations of Charter School Governing Boards
  • Top Priorities of Charter School Governing Boards
  • Effective Board Meetings
  • Barriers to Effective Governance
  • Governing Board Composition
  • The Parental Role

  • Testing Data Review - The School Improvement Leadership Team (SILT) gave a very thorough breakdown of the testing data collected in order to make improvements to school performance. Using various tools, such as the Georgia Milestone/CCRPI, the SILT has been able to identify many areas of successes, as well as areas for improvement. There were many celebrations of successes and very few areas of focus, of which the team is diligently working to improve.

  • Charter School Renewal Update - Dr. Bowling shared a document of 9 BOE Requested Revisions to the Charter Renewal Application as presented to him by Dr. Chris Houston, Superintendent of Greene County Schools. The Board of Governors discussed the requested revisions, and asked clarifying questions and gave feedback.

  • LOA Waiting List - There are currently 362 students on the waiting list, 30 of those students are listed as priority students.

LOA Board of Governors will hold its next meeting Monday, October 2, 2023. If you have any questions or concerns you can reach the LOA Board of Governors by emailing LOABOG@lakeoconeeacademy.org.
