MORE NEWS FROM THE NEST
Great and exciting things are happening! Work on preparing our new nest site has begun!

Over 500,000 (yes, that's half a million) pounds of stone have been delivered to the site for the driveway and parking areas. When the project is complete, over 1,000,000 pounds of gravel will be on site! That's a lot o' rock!

Using heavy equipment loaned to the project by the awesome folks at Fox Contractors, two Fox Contractors volunteers did the majority of the site work. Soarin' Hawk volunteers were on site as well, doing chores to keep things moving and, of course, taking lots of photos.

The pad for the "operations" building has been prepared. Work to install utilities and construction of the building itself will begin as soon as the weather allows.

Our dreams are becoming reality! Stay tuned!
Thank you to Bob Thomas Ford Lincoln North for helping us meet a need that we were working hard to make come true!!!!!

HUNTING WITHOUT SEEING
Imagine being in a pitch-black room, your pupils maximally dilated, but you can’t see a thing. You feel helpless. Now picture a Barn Owl on a perch and a mouse scurrying across the floor. The bird drops and glides toward the rodent — dramatic predator-prey behavior. So who wins? The mouse doesn’t stand a chance. And in total darkness!

CAN OWLS CLIMB TREES?
GOT CHICKENS?
CAN YOU PROTECT THEM FROM HAWKS?

If you raise chickens, odds are you've had a run-in with a hawk. Because raptors are protected, you may feel your hands are tied. What can you do?

CONSERVATION CORNER
Be the change...

You're sitting in your living room, watching TV, when you hear a loud "Whomp!" against the picture window overlooking your backyard. You jump up to see what happened, and see nothing - until you look down. There, on the ground right outside the window, is a large bird, struggling to get to his feet.

Although many times, the bird just needs time to regain his senses, and will fly away eventually if left alone ( click here to see what to do if a bird hits your window ), over one billion (yes, that's BILLION) birds die due to window strikes each year. Why does this happen, and can anything be done to prevent it?

EDUCATION CORNER
MEET OUR EDUCATION BIRDS - Ginger

Ginger came to us in late summer of 2015 from another raptor rehabilitator in Indiana. She has a wing injury which causes a permanent wing droop; she cannot fly well enough to be released. Ginger is an exquisitely colored Red-Shouldered Hawk with a lot of deep-red-colored feathers. She is large for a red-shouldered, so we assumed she was a female. Then she laid some eggs in the spring of 2016, which obviously confirmed it!
PLEASE HELP US HELP THE BIRDS!
We were able to help this beautiful Great Horned Owl that was hit by a car, thanks to donations from people like you. Won't you make a donation now to help us help these magnificent birds? No contribution is too small!

Your donation is tax deductible.
