A Note From Our Chief Executive Officer

Dear friends of 4Cs,

Nothing reminds me of how wonderful our 4Cs of Alameda County community is than our Annual Free Children's Fair. Last Saturday we hosted another incredible Fair with more than 1,350 children and families joining us for a day of community, fun, and festivities. We invited two dozen community partners to table and share about their programs and services, connecting neighbors with critical supports. We were also happy to welcome back the Eat. Learn. Play. Bus whose volunteers distributed lunch and books to attendees and we had boxes of groceries for all thanks to our wonderful partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Entertainment, arts and crafts, balloon twisters, Hayward Public Library's Curbie bookmobile, a Royal Ambulance, and Hayward Fire Department's fire engine rounded out the day of fun. If you want to see the highlights of my favorite day of the year, visit our Children's Fair Photo Album. Thanks to all who joined us - I hope that you had as much fun as we did!

Be well,

Community Spotlight

Andrea Finley-Browne

Manager, Child Care Payment Programs

“The work that we do supports families in gaining access to quality childcare, promotes equity and inclusion, boosts early childhood education, and so much more. I am so very grateful for being part of such a wonderful field of service.”

If you've visited 4Cs Oakland Office, chances are you've met Andrea. A positive, nurturing, welcoming presence, as Manager, Child Care Payment Programs, Andrea enjoys leading her team and working with families ensuring everyone has the tools they need to thrive. Many families she serves find themselves in the same predicament she was in not so long ago: a single mom with two children needing support with child care while she returned to school to pursue a degree. Fast-forward almost three decades later, and Andrea has dedicated her career to helping families access child care support services. Joining 4Cs of Alameda County in 2017, Andrea loves working with an enthusiastic staff that embodies teamwork and whose "genuine belief that our clients are not just a part of our day, but the reason for it."

New Grants for Alameda County Child Care Providers

News from Alameda County Social Services Agency:

"Exciting News! The Alameda County Board of Supervisors (BOS) and the Alameda County Social Services Agency (SSA) will provide a new opportunity for unrestricted funding to support the vital work of licensed child care providers in Alameda County.

This funding opportunity follows an initial round of one-time grants awarded to over 1,200 eligible licensed small and large Family Child Care (FCC) and Center-based programs in Alameda County totaling $3.74 million who applied for funding between June 2022 and March 2023. Alameda County secured the funding by using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to support the crucial role child care businesses played during the COVID-19 pandemic. The BOS has allocated an additional amount of $5.9M (+$1.3M carry over from the initial funding) for a total of $7.2M toward child care grants, affording SSA the ability to re-open the grant portal."
