Simply Scrumptious

During Culinary Chaos Week, Camp Osprey at the Casco Bay Branch had a scrumptious visit from Wilbur’s of Maine Chocolate Confections.

The campers were treated to a delightful session where they not only tasted five scrumptious chocolate samples but also got an educational understanding into the chocolate-making process at Wilbur's factories.

Wilbur's commitment to using locally sourced ingredients is evident in every handcrafted confection created.

With a dedicated team of 12 chocolatiers and minimal automation, they meticulously craft thousands of pounds of premium confections each year.

Their focus on quality ensures that every bite of chocolate delivers not just flavor and value, but craftsmanship and care.

The YMCA of Southern Maine and Camp Osprey send a heartfelt thank you to Wilbur's Chocolates for making the week extra sweet!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Thanks to Portland’s Spectrum Mobile donation drive, our Preschool and Summer Camp Programs have fun new toys. Their donation drive collected great items such as playground balls, hula hoops, crayons, markers and much more for our Youth Programs. Your generosity and determination have made a real difference for the kids at the Y. Thank you Spectrum Mobile for your hard work.

Starting the Year Off Strong

The first day of school can be both exciting and stressful for kids and parent alike, but as a parent or guardian, you can play a major role in setting your kids up for success.

1. Getting back into a school

sleep schedule. A couple of weeks before school starts, get your child(ren) back into the habit

of going to bed earlier.

2. Re-establish an after school routine. Establishing a consistent routine is important for kids

and can include time for doing homework, playtime, brushing

their teeth, having a bath/shower, and reading before bed.

3. Encourage their independence.

Let your children take part in preparing for back to school – such as selecting and organizing school supplies and new clothes.

4. Choose the right backpack.

Backpacks that are too heavy

or worn incorrectly can result in muscle strain, headaches, and neck pain.

5. Establish healthy habits. Involve your kids in selecting healthy food for their lunch and snacks and help them find physical activities they enjoy.

6. Limit screen time.

Back to school time is the perfect opportunity to re-establish

screen time limits.

7. Pre-plan school mornings.

Practice walking or driving to school or to the bus stop.

8. Talk about first-week jitters.

Reassure your child that being nervous is natural and let them express their concerns.

With these helpful tips, you'll be setting your kids up for success all through the year.
