Dear Southernites and Friends:
Imagine 20,000! At the request of the Honorable Ann Smith, Chairlady of the SU Board of Supervisors, I had the pleasure of making a joint presentation with Domoine Rutledge, President of the System Foundation, and Al Harrell, CEO of the System Foundation, on what I believe will be the most powerful collaborative SU project in over 100 years. We have heard many of the concerns and suggestions of alumni, students and university stakeholders throughout the nation. The Foundation, Federation, and System have been working together to develop a new Master Plan to begin the transformation of Southern University as we know it. Imagine 20,000 is intended to help address the millions of dollars of deferred maintenance on our Main Campus, repair roads and buildings, construct new student apartments and academic buildings, and retire old ones. The project imagines a complete transformation of the Harding Blvd corridor, the Swan Street corridor, and the beautiful Southern University riverfront.

Southern Prepares to Compete
at 28th annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge National Championship
Southern University-Baton Rouge will go head to head with teams from 48 fellow (HBCUs) on April 8-12, 2017 on the American Motor Co., campus in Torrance, California. Southern University has the opportunity to win a $75,000 institutional grant from Honda.
Southern will be represented by Myeisha L. Webb, a Senior majoring in Elementary Education from Baton Rouge, LA, Terrence J. Curry, a Senior majoring in Biology & Pre-Med from Newton, MS, Kelvin
P. Wells, Jr., a Sophomore majoring in Pol. Sci. & Int'l. Relations from Baton Rouge, LA, and Joyner Deamer, a Sophomore majoring in Civil Engineering from Carbondale, IL. Deadra James Mackie will coach the team.
