Dear Southernites and Friends:
Last Saturday at the SU Alumni Federation East Baton Rouge Parish Chapter Annual Alumni Breakfast, United States Congressman Cedric Richmond walked up to the mic and made two fantastic announcements. First, he donated $1,370 in celebration of the University's 137th Anniversary and acknowledgement of the hard work and success of the Federation. Second, he announced that he would lead the effort for the creation of the Representative Avon Honey Endowed Professorship by raising $60,000 to be matched by the Board of Regents for a $100,000 professorship. As you know, Representative Honey died prematurely and was an incredible supporter of Southern University. Following Hurricane Katrina, Representative Honey opened his home to Congressman Richmond after he, like many others, was forced to leave the City of New Orleans due to the flood and devastation following the hurricane. Thanks, Congressman Richmond! The Southern University Alumni Federation East Baton Rouge Parish Chapter Annual Alumni Breakfast, needless to say, was a huge success! Chapter President Kestee Weir III and the members of the Planning Committee for the Alumni Breakfast deserve a huge congratulations.

excited to be in the final stages of the alumni directory project. We are writing to apologize and take full responsibility for the delay in the delivery date of the publication and apparel. We fully expect the publication will ship in April 2017 and the apparel products will begin to ship by the end of May 2017.
This delay is due to complications in the production process.

- NASA's Internship, Fellowship and Scholarship or NIFS (http://intern.nasa.gov) opportunities is a career development program that invests in the country's future workforce by providing unique research opportunities to student and teacher learners while actively engaging them in current NASA missions. These opportunities are available for riding high school junior and seniors through Post-Doctorate Fellows. There are four sessions students can partake in: Spring, Fall, Summer and Year-Long.
- NASA's Pathways Program (http://nasajobs.nasa.gov) provides opportunities for students and recent graduates to be considered for Federal employment for interns, recent graduates and presidential management fellows.

The Minority Educational Institution Student Partnership Program (MEISPP)
Summer Internship
|
The Minority Educational Institution Student Partnership Program offers talented undergraduate and graduate students summer internship positions with the U.S. Department of Energy and its National Laboratories. Positions involve scientific research or a focus on policy, business, and government relations. Internships include lodging, round trip airfare, and student stipends. As program participants, students receive an intensive 8-10 week assignment to "jump-start" their careers and develop their potential for future opportunities within the federal government. Students work side-by-side with leading scientists, engineers, and other top professionals to develop professional skills and enhance leadership capabilities.
To apply for the 2017 MEISPP internship the following documents must be received in order to be considered:
