Producers' Notes

Feel the JOY the music brings!

Thank you for all the warm welcomes! Stepping into this role is not a chore…it’s a joy and privilege.

It was great to have the soloists last night – sure does help us all with the flow. The other thing that will truly help is to follow Mike’s advice to “put down the music."  I’m still working on memorizing some of the lyrics but I have definitely seen the advantage of practicing with just the recordings. I typically start to panic about this time every season and wonder if I’ll really learn all the lyrics and notes, yet somehow it all comes together.

Keep practicing, keep smiling, feel the JOY the music brings!

Mike's Notes

We're in the home stretch!

Thanks for all your great and continued work everyone. We have just two more rehearsals before our band joins us, and I know we're going to be ready to feel great in that rehearsal.

This week, we're going to try to work through much of our program, ending each with a "memorized" run...not to demonstrate perfection, but to trigger reminders for where we need a little extra time and energy.

So, please do your best to prepare the following, whether it's reviewing some notes with your practice tracks, memorizing words, or listening to our YouTube playlist to try to organize sections in your brain:

  • Turn Around
  • Julian of Norwich
  • You've Got a Friend
  • Try to Remember
  • Ashokan Farewell
  • Every Day is a Day of Thanksgiving

If possible, now is the time where we really need to prioritize being together, in person, for the rest of our rehearsals. Please do your best to be there, and I can't wait to see you all on Tuesday!

~ Mike

And the Concert Color Is...

As Bev revealed during Tuesday's Announcements, any color green is the color for Seasons of Change.

She also outlined the dress code for the concert: Solid black bottom and shoes, a solid green top, scarves/ties. No t-shirts, sleeveless or tank tops, please. View this color chart for ideas.

Online Auction Update

The auction items are coming in…!

Many thanks to everyone who has already contributed great items including:

  • Music items: Voice lessons, Ukulele lessons, Ukulele Starter Kit, Electronic Keyboard
  • Home baked items: Chocolate Chip Cookies, Carrot Cake, Decadent Chocolate Torte with Raspberries
  • Health & wellness items: Massage, life coaching, recumbent bike
  • Beautiful Mystic-made artwork and unique items for the home

Wondering what YOU can contribute? Here's an

auction idea for this week...

Gift Certificates to local shops and restaurants: When you contribute a gift certificate to the Mystic auction, you’re doing TWO great things: First, you support your favorite local shop or restaurant by purchasing a gift certificate, and then you support the Mystic Chorale by donating it to the auction! Gift Certificates have been among our top-performing auction items, often going for above face value!

Mystic’s online auction is our big annual fundraiser and our chance to share a part of ourselves with our music community. What you offer is only limited by your imagination! With your help, we aim to raise $7,000 to keep Mystic vibrant in the year ahead.

Use the Mystic Chorale Auction Donation Form to add your item!

If you have questions, send an email to

Auction Dates:

  • Sunday, May 19: Item submission deadline
  • Tuesday, May 28: Auction kickoff, in conjunction with the Mystic Annual Meeting, in the evening on Zoom.
  • Sunday, June 9: Auction closes

Let’s make this the best Mystic auction yet and keep our beloved chorus thriving!

Be a Mystic Ambassador!

We need EACH of you to be a Mystic Ambassador and help us spread the word about our concert!

You can…

  • Post our concert flyers on bulletin boards at your gym, library, coffee shop, wherever you can. If the large version won’t fit, post the mini-flyer instead.

  • Forward the digital invitation (evite) you’ll receive this Sunday to friends and family, not only locally but far and wide since anyone, anywhere can watch via livestream!

  • Engage on our Facebook and on Instagram. Like our page. Share the concert flyer when we post it online. Comment on postings and reels that we add to our page. The more likes and shares on our posts, the more the Facebook algorithm works in our favor, pushing out our posts to a wider audience.

  • Talk up the concert to anyone who will listen!

Practice Resources

At Mystic Chorale, we know everyone learns differently, so we strive to have multiple ways to learn, practice and memorize our songs. Keep an eye on this PRACTICE RESOURCES section to find new content added throughout the season.

A great way to internalize our songs! Watch popular versions AND performances of the exact arrangements we'll be singing.

Over the course of the season, volunteer section leaders are offering extra help to their section. This may be extra review sessions and/or other kinds of "helps." You'll find complete details about upcoming pre-rehearsal practice sessions with dates, time and locations on your section resources page.

Section leaders will hold (optional) practice sessions throughout the season, from mid-April through concert week. Information about where and when is posted on the above Section Resources pages.

Last week's rehearsal videos, #1 and #2

Week #7: APRIL 23, 2024

Last night, technology failed and technology triumphed.

At 01:26:47, we lost the livestream soon after the chorale began working on Ashokan Farewell. At first, it seemed to Jack and me that the backup link wasn't working. A few minutes later it was.

We were in suspense: Would the backup link produce a recording? I am thrilled to tell you that Ashokan Farewell and Winter Song were recorded in full in the backup. Linda's "just in case" backup strategy saved the day!

Links to all songs rehearsed last night are included below, along with a link to Mike's closing remarks when he shared his goals for the future. I thought singers who could not be with us last night might want to hear them too.

For Virtual Singers

Livestream Instructions & Tips

Welcome Virtual Singers!!

We are so glad you are joining us, and look forward to having you there "with us" in the rehearsal hall!

What you will need:

  • A computer/laptop (recommended) We recommend your computer or laptop - the bigger the screen, and the better your speakers, the more you will feel "with" us. But a tablet, ipad or phone will work, too.

  • Headphones, Earbuds or External Speakers (highly recommended). The better your speakers, the more you will hear the director and singers in the room.

  • A place to sit and sing comfortably. We suggest an upright chair, similar to what you would find at rehearsal. A soft chair or couch is not as conducive to good singing.

How to tune into the Livestream:

At 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, click the video preview or link below, and you'll be with us! Each week, we'll post the livestream link here in News & Notes, and on the website, here

If we lose the Livestream signal:

Occasionally, we lose the livestream signal due to a poor internet connection. If that happens, go to the "Just in case" backup link below. We'll try to be back up and running asap!

How to watch the video after the rehearsal:

If you miss the Livestream on Tuesday night, it will be available on our website and the YouTube Playlist after rehearsal.
