Producers' Notes

Our music is coming in to bloom!

Hello singers!

We are 10 days into Spring and we really are embracing the Season of Change, parting with Linda and embracing Michèle!

With auditions coming up and the music coming into bloom, remember to take some time for yourself. Filling your own cup will pour out into your music. Take a long walk and hear the sounds around you, meditate for a few minutes before bed, or give your body a nice stretch in the morning. When we take these small moments that calm our mind, they can also help us to connect to our music! The more we can be present and connect to the world around us, the more we can connect with the messages we are sending out in our concert.

I look forward to singing with you all on Tuesday - take good care!

~ Cassandra

Mike's Notes

What a fun start we're off to!

Thanks, everyone, for your great spirits, energies and enthusiasms in this first few weeks. As we turn toward auditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, and sectionals this coming week (for sopranos and altos) and the following week (for tenors and basses), we'll start to see our pieces and our season come into sharper focus, which is always exciting.

Here's what we'll work on at our next rehearsal:

  • Seasons of Love: Whole song, with focus on supporting sections and soloists
  • Try to Remember: mm. 45-end
  • Winter Song: mm. 59-end
  • Circle Game: Whole Song, with a new idea for the ending
  • Ashokan Farewell: mm. 21-37
  • Every Day is a Day of Thanksgiving: Whole song, with focus on the "road map" at the end

Thanks again to Linda for all her hard work and love for Mystic, and welcome again to Michèle, who will be such a terrific leader for us going forward. We are in great hands.

See you all on Tuesday!

~ Mike

Online Auction

OK, Spring Concert Singers! You heard Linda talk about our annual online auction at rehearsal...

Our online auction is our big annual fundraiser and as Linda said so well, it's our chance to share a part of ourselves with our music community, whether it is a reserved parking space for Tuesday night rehearsals, yummy baked goods, artwork, music lessons. What you offer is only limited by your imagination!

What's the auction?

Our online auction features dozens of items donated by Mystic singers to raise needed funds for the Chorale. Past auctions have raised $6000-10,000 for Mystic! This helps us keep singer fees low and put on our fabulous concerts!

What kinds of items are we looking for?

Items made by Mystic singers have been a bit hit, as well as other items, including:

  • Baked goods: Cookies, cakes and pies
  • One-pot meals: Your famous lasagna or specialty soup
  • Your own art and fine crafts
  • Gift certificates to your favorite local shops & restaurants
  • Gift certificates for professional services, such as massage, personal coaching, gardening, etc.
  • Jewelry, scarves and accessories
  • Items for the kitchen and dining room
  • Outings and experiences, such as a guided hike, group class or museum outing, led by you!

How to donate to the auction:

Please fill out our auction donation form, here:  Mystic Chorale Auction Donation Form

Meet Our Section Leaders!

We are formally rolling out the Section Leaders Team! Section Leaders will work under Mike’s direction to assist our sections in feeling comfortable learning the music, to provide answers to singers’ music questions, to support singers using the many learning resources in various formats located at Mystic Chorale > My Seasons and to continue the wonderful community experience for which the Mystic is known.

Meet our Section Leaders:

  • Soprano: Cyndy Gaviglio, Jai Kaur, Joyce Nichols
  • Alto: Katie Dunton
  • Tenor: George Foote
  • Base: Jim Hickey

We will be holding (optional) sectional reviews throughout the season, from mid-April through concert week. Information about where and when will be posted on the Section Resource pages on the website.

Please feel free to talk to Cyndy, Jai, Joyce, Katie, George and Jim at rehearsals or send them an email to their soon-to-be-created Mystic Chorale email addresses. Once the new email addresses are created, we'll share them in the next newsletter. Any and all questions are welcome! General questions about the Section Leaders team can be directed to Katie Dunton.

Practice Resources

At Mystic Chorale, we know everyone learns differently, so we strive to have multiple ways to learn, practice and memorize our songs. Keep an eye on this PRACTICE RESOURCES section to find new content added throughout the season.

A great way to internalize our songs! Watch popular versions AND performances of the exact arrangements we'll be singing.

Over the course of the season, volunteer section leaders will be offering extra help to their section. This may be extra review sessions and/or other kinds of "helps." Some of these pages are still under construction - we'll keep you updated as new content is added.

For Virtual Singers

Livestream Instructions & Tips

Welcome Virtual Singers!!

We are so glad you are joining us, and look forward to having you there "with us" in the rehearsal hall!

What you will need:

  • A computer/laptop (recommended) We recommend your computer or laptop - the bigger the screen, and the better your speakers, the more you will feel "with" us. But a tablet, ipad or phone will work, too.

  • Headphones, Earbuds or External Speakers (highly recommended). The better your speakers, the more you will hear the director and singers in the room.

  • A place to sit and sing comfortably. We suggest an upright chair, similar to what you would find at rehearsal. A soft chair or couch is not as conducive to good singing.

How to tune into the Livestream:

At 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, click the video preview or link below, and you'll be with us! Each week, we'll post the livestream link here in News & Notes, and on the website, here

If we lose the Livestream signal:

Occasionally, we lose the livestream signal due to a poor internet connection. If that happens, go to the "Just in case" backup link below. We'll try to be back up and running asap!

How to watch the video after the rehearsal:

If you miss the Livestream on Tuesday night, it will be available on our website and the YouTube Playlist after rehearsal.
