Celebrate Youth Excellence at All-America City Celebration

Join us for an unforgettable evening at the All-America City Celebration on Aug. 17, 4 - 9 p.m. at City Center at Oyster Point! This event, a part of the annual Made in Newport News festival, proudly showcases the achievements of our great city and the talents of our youth.

This year, our celebration will spotlight the incredible Newport News Marching Band Programs representing Newport News Public Schools. As part of the Mayor’s Youth T.H.R.I.V.E. initiative, which promotes the advancement of our young people, the evening will be filled with energy and excitement.

Get ready to cheer as our city's finest kick off the festivities at 4:30 p.m. with a vibrant parade featuring local organizations and the remarkable performances of our marching bands and drumlines. This electrifying parade of sound will lead our All-America City delegation, who proudly represented Newport News in Denver this past June.

Student Freedom Pass Palooza

FREE unlimited rides on HRT for riders ages 13 to 17

Have a teenager starting work this year, but they don't have a car? That's okay! Stop by the Peninsula Student Freedom Pass event so they can ride transit - free and unlimited - until they graduate!

Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is once again helping students gear up for the school year by offering Student Freedom Passes, giving riders ages 13 to 17 unlimited access to free rides on HRT buses, ferries, and light rail service.

The event will be held at Hampton High School (1491 West Queen St., Hampton, VA, 23669) on Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Passes will be provided and staff will help students plan and navigate their trips. Complete your application ahead of time at gohrt.com/studentfreedompass.
