SOURCE TRADE PAPERBACK OF THE WEEK
Strange Adventures of HP Lovecraft
Oh, the tortures that modern authors put Howard Lovecraft through. The impulse is understandable-Lovecraft's utter commitment to his style and mythos certainly felt, well, suspicious. Could he have possibly written the way he did without some inroad into the supernatural? This graphic novel suggests not, and has a ball casting the skinny, down-on-his-luck scribbler as unwilling combatant against the forces of evil. Lovecraft's editor at Weird Tales thinks he's a loony; Lovecraft's erstwhile librarian girlfriend, Sylvia (fabulously outfitted as a flapper), has moved on to a new gent; and Lovecraft himself is deep within the throes of crushing writer's block. For better or worse (and, believe me, it's worse) the library's newest acquisition-the Necronomicon-somehow channels wild, tentacled monsters who slaughter Lovecraft's enemies while he sleeps. It's an above-par action-horror comic written in a voice almost flowery enough to be Lovecraft's own. Salmons' dynamic and shadowy art, meanwhile, hits its stride when given opportunity to stretch out, as in the lavish spreads of the Old Ones-"'It is indescribable, except in fragments,'" thinks Lovecraft, and he's right. 2011 SOURCE MEGA SUMMER RPG EVENT!
Gamma World! - Starts 1st Week In June 2011!
Players Wanted & GM's Needed!
Here's the basic scenario: After the Big Mistake, everything was different. Multiple realities collapsed together, creating a single consensus reality combining nuclear devastation, robot armies, mutant conquerors, and alien invaders in an irradiated aftermath called Gamma Terra. The year is 2162, according to the calendar of the Ancients. One hundred fifty years have shuffled by since everything changed. A landscape of radioactive deserts, ruined cities, mutated jungles, and vast unexplored wildernesses stretch across the world. Few "pure strain" humans remain. Most folks possess a mutant quirk after generations of exposure to radiation, mutagens, and the debris of other worldlines, but these are minor blemishes; an extra thumb is nothing to write home about, especially when grandma has a third eye. A blind third eye she covers with a kerchief, but there you go.This is the world of the D&D GAMMA WORLD ROLE PLAYING GAME, for the Source Mega RPG Summer event for 2011. It's a world of dangerous mutant monsters, jungle-grown ruins of the cities of the Ancients, and mysterious artifacts of awesome technology. It's your world to survive, to explore and to conquer - if you're up to the challange!

ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT!
The Countryside Retaurant
Step into your time machine and visit the Countryside
Restaurant! A Roseville institution for years, in the age of high concept sometimes it's easy to overlook a truly local, old fashioned, family owned and operated neighborhood restaurant. The Countryside is considered famous for it's "Broasted Chicken" and with good reason. It's absolutely outstanding! In addition, they also offer a full service menu with a wide variety of tasty traditional meals. The customer demographic at the Countryside is a little bit older, the decor kitchy and the wait staff does a great job serving their customers in a friendly, fun and happy manner. Finally, don't forget the pie! Yummy!
- Is located just off of Snelling Aveune North in Roseville, MN.
- Closest intersection is Snelling Ave. N. and County Road C2, just one mile north of Rosedale Shopping Center. Our entrance is off of Lincoln Dr. which is one block West of Snelling Ave. N.
- 3 miles South of Interstate 694, 1 mile North of HWY 36, and about 3 miles North of the Minnesota State Fair Grounds.

Swedish Cartoonist Jesper Lfvenborg on Exhibit
at the American Swedish Institute
March 8-April 29, 2011
About the Artist:
Jesper Lfvenborg (1976- ) lives in Karlstad, Sweden, where he paints daily and creates weekly comicstrips for a newspaper and an entertainment magazine. His work has been shown in various exhibits since 2006 in Sweden; this is his first exhibition in the U.S. Among other artistic endeavors, he has been involved in public art projects and designed a skateboard/t-shirt graphic for a Swedish skateboard company. He works primarily with acrylic paints, but also uses watercolors, andartistic markers. He counts among his influences animals, cartoons, comic books, children's books, skateboard art, Herg, Sven Nordquist, Todd Schorr, and a number of personal friends and relatives including his grandmother, a textile artist.
The Exhibit:
The colorful, imaginative, and happily raucous works of Swedish artist and cartoonist Jesper Lfvenborg will be on exhibit at the American Swedish Institute March 8-April 29 in the Turnblad Mansion's lower level gallery. Lfvenborg's paintings are exaggerated mini-worlds of creatures and pop culture characters.Every work hides symbols and references to Swedish traditions and figures from comics, children's literature, and more. The artist's interests in tattoo art and skateboarding are reflected in the exhibit as well;the display will include a skateboard bearing his custom design in addition to the more than 40 paintings and cartoons that will be part of the exhibit.
