New Meditation for Wellbeing Series

Begins January 4th

Please join us for this four-week series, as we will experience several meditation practices, using easy breathing techniques and guided imagery. These practices will help us enjoy a state of general relaxation for healing, and the promoting and sustaining of mind and body health.

Meditation is a key component of all the world’s religions, as it slows our minds and bodies and allows us to be open to the divine. This series will come from more of a health and wellness perspective. No prior meditation experience or knowledge is required.

Sessions will be held on Thursday mornings at 10am upstairs from Hadley Hall, beginning on January 4th, 2024. The meditation leader will be Karen Galipeau, a long-time Hampstead resident and friend of HCC. She draws on her personal practice with meditation, in addition to much training and coursework in a variety of mind and body techniques, as well as her professional nursing experiences over 35 years. We are grateful for her willingness to share her time and gifts in this way! We hope you will consider attending.

Connecting with Pastor Kathy

Pastor Kathy wants to make sure to connect with congregants before her departure on February 5th.

If you would like to meet with her, whether it is in the office, or for coffee or lunch, or something else, please contact her to set it up. Her upcoming days and weeks will be busy, and she wants to make sure to provide opportunities for everyone to meet with her who would like to.

A Word from Peace & Justice

I've noticed that my bird feeders are not empty as often this fall and into winter as they were this summer or in prior years. Yet I've heard and seen nearly as many birds in my neighborhood when I'm out walking. The local habitat hasn't changed much so what is going on?

It seems that has been a common question lately because Sean O'Brien at NH Cooperatve Extension started researching the answer. Something more than a difference due to migration seems to be going on because most New England birds don't migrate very far. He found that “[i]t’s a mast year, which means oak trees are producing a lot more acorns than usual, providing a feast for wildlife – including birds.”, according to O’Brien. The birds have plenty to eat without coming out of the forest shelter to visit bird feeders.

Blankets for Project Linus

For those of you who have been busy sewing, quilting, knitting, or crocheting, we have an new opportunity to donate those handmade items!

We located a national organization that has local chapters called Project Linus (https://www.facebook.com/projectlinussouthwestnewhampshire/). This organization's mission is "to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans". Blankets are given to children in need through NH.

*We welcome all styles of blankets made in child-friendly colors/prints.
*Crocheted, knitted, quilted (100% cotton or flannel), fleece….you don’t have to be an expert!
*Blankets must be NEW, HANDMADE and WASHABLE.
*Fabric blankets can be quilted by machine, hand or tied. If you are tying the blanket make sure the ends are trimmed to 1” and the knots are secure.
*Please do not add any embellishments to the blankets such as buttons that could be swallowed by a child.
*If you are using a no-sew fleece pattern, please be sure to trim off both selvages FIRST. Not sure what selvages are? Ask the clerk who is cutting your fleece to please show you, they’re those odd looking edges at the top and bottom of the piece you have, sort of raggy looking.
*We accept all sizes of blankets. We donate to children, infants through teen years, so any size is appropriate. Baby blankets are typically 36”X36” or 36”X42”, toddler-pre-teen are typically about 40”X60”, and teen blankets are at least 60"X72".

Blankets can be dropped off in the entry way of Hadley Hall.

Thank you for your support of this project!
