Happy New Year!

Greetings!,

Oh, how I love New Year's resolutions.  Something about the blank slate, the possibility for growth.

What better time to take the Raising Happiness Class?

I know resolutions aren't for everyone.  One of my best friends -- a happy guy any way you look at it -- doesn't make resolutions.  He likes things just the way they are, thank you very much.  When he wants to improve something, he just does it, without a lot of overt planning or resolution-making.  It is an admirable, loving-what-is approach to life.

But like most p
eople, I personally can't dive headlong into a major change without a fair bit of contemplation and preparation.

I have a list of 12 New Year's Resolutions to focus on in 2011, all ambitious, all things that will increase my own happiness and the happiness of my children.  I'd like to exercise more, meditate more, spend more time playing with my children.  Oh, and I'd love to start painting again -- I've got a painting I started more than two years ago sitting untouched, calling to me.

Fortunately, we know a lot about how to create a new habit.  This is the key: it is one thing to make a New Year's resolution, but quite another to know how to fulfill it.

The science around making changes works.  Many people need structure, like this habit tracker.  We know that most people need to do some planning, and that starting small is often far more effective starting out with big, ambitious changes.

What resolutions will you make this year that will influence your family's happiness?  I hope you will join our Raising Happiness community to make--and fulfill--your 2011 resolutions.

Wishing you much joy in the New Year!
