The U.S. House of Representatives reconvened for a rare August session last week to push forward a budget resolution that provides the framework for a $3.5 trillion spending deal through the reconciliation process. The vote will allow the Democratic majority the opportunity to consider a massive spending package this fall without Republican support. This package will likely include a host of priorities for the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats.
The budget resolution also includes a nonbinding commitment to vote on the Senate passed infrastructure bill by Sept. 27. According to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Democrats are hoping to have the reconciliation package, which committees have a Sept. 15 deadline to assemble, ready for floor action around the same time as the infrastructure bill, with the goal of passing both by the end of September.
