BIA Construction Workforce Training Program - Are You Hiring? Connect with the Graduates of the SBCCD BIA Construction Training Program

The San Bernardino Community College District BIA Construction Training Program is currently under way, and graduates would like to meet with you to discuss career opportunities. Are you currently hiring? These graduates have been trained in the areas of framing, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and concrete, among other skills utilized in the building industry. (For more information about the program and curriculum, click here.)

BIA member companies have the opportunity to support the program and offer priority interviews to those who complete the course on Friday, June 7th at 9:00 am at 1325 Spruce St. Suite 100, Riverside, CA 92507. Please email Ana Gromis at agromis@biasc.org if you would like to participate and get connected with the program administrators.

Thank you for supporting this program and BIA and SBCCD’s joint effort to offer students the foundation to become successful in our industry trades.

The BIA/SBC Chapter remains committed to supporting our members and advocating for our industry. We are dedicated to providing you with valuable resources, networking opportunities, and a platform to voice your concerns and ideas. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can make a difference in the building industry and create a stronger future for all.

Warm regards,

Ryan Combe

BIA Energy Committee

As we navigate the dynamic landscape of the building industry, it is imperative that we actively engage in discussions with utilities to streamline the development process and address infrastructure needs. The Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIA) recognizes the high-priority nature of this endeavor.

We are excited to announce the formation of our Energy Committee, dedicated to fostering proactive discussions with utilities across the region. By participating in this committee, you will contribute to the development of efficient processes and the implementation of robust infrastructure to support current and future projects.

If you share our commitment to shaping the future of our industry, we invite you to join our working group. For further details and to express your interest, please contact Ana Gromis at agromis@biasc.org. Your participation is vital to the success of our collective efforts. We look forward to collaborating with you in ensuring a resilient and progressive future for the building industry throughout Southern California

Please contact the BIA staff if these proposals will impact any of your current projects:

Victorville Citywide CDF

The City of Victorville is proposing a new citywide CFD for public safety on all future residential projects with an estimated annual property tax of $525. BIA review and discussions with city staff are ongoing. Click to see attached proposal.

Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority

The Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA) had proposed a sewer connection fee increase of approximately 70% or $3,000 per unit to finance over $300M in new facilities needed to accommodate future growth in Apple Valley, Hesperia, Victorville and the County of San Bernardino unincorporated area. The VVWRA agreed with the BIA recommendation to pause consideration of the fee adoption until the completion of a feasibility study later this year to confirm the scope and estimated costs of the facilities.

City of Redlands DIF Update

The City of Redlands has agreed to the BIA request for a 30-day continuance on a proposed DIF increase to transition to a per square foot calculation that add approximately $1,500 to $2,000 per unit depending on the size of the residential unit. The public hearing is scheduled for July 2.

Western Joshua Tree Conservation Plan

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is in the process of developing the Western Joshua Tree Conservation Plan, as required by the Western Joshua Tree Conservation Act. The plan is being developed on a very tight timeline, with a complete draft due to the California Fish and Game Commission for review and approval by December 31, 2024. The BIA has scheduled two workshops with CDFW and continues to provide comments to ensure a balanced and timely permit process for residential development.
