Artist in Residence: Monica LaPlante
In the spirit of artists like L7, The Kills, and Savages, Monica's garage pop style is rough but bright, and is effortlessly cool. There's quirky echoes of influential bands like Television and The B52's, but inspiration aside, these tracks stand on their own with their classic and creative energy.
Black Label is proud to exclusively retain this collection for licensing opportunities.
If rapid evolution is a sign of both great potential and the likelihood of realizing it, Monica LaPlante is staring down the barrel of a long and illustrious future. On 2013 debut Jour, the Minneapolis-based composer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist employed sophisticated garage pop as a vehicle for ruminations on lost love, unrequited love, fleeting love, being in love with love, and all of the above. By the time LaPlante recorded 2016/2017's Noir, her overall approach had picked up considerable muscle mass and, for the most part, gotten a f@#k of a lot darker.
