New Project, "MEmorial", to Debut at DUMBO Arts Festival in September

We are excited to announce that our new project, MEmorial, will have its debut at the DUMBO Arts Festival, from September 24th - 26th. MEmorial is an opportunity for the living to commemorate themselves by choosing an object to represent their life as it is lived now. Participation is open to all ages. Please bring an object that represents your life as you are living it now. We hope to see you there. For the complete description and location, read below.

We have been receiving journals from participants in our most recent project, 60 Days. If you have a journal, please send it to us or email us your mailing address and we will send you a pre-stamped envelope for its safe return.

Thanks for your support.

Keep it public,

New Project: MEmorial

What is MEmorial?

The MEmorial project draws its inspiration from the impromptu memorials and vigils that commonly commemorate a sudden death with variegated collections of photographs, notes and objects. These makeshift tributes have become a ubiquitous part of the human-created landscape, appearing in both the densest of urban environments to the dirt road, miles from any development. These sites are displays of sentiment and condolence, clouded by sadness and the need to acknowledge life.

MEmorial will provide an opportunity for the living to commemorate themselves by choosing an object to represent their life as it is being lived now. Is it a soccer ball, a tulip, a love note or a photograph? Whatever "it" may be, it will placed in the MEmorial space, creating an observance that celebrates the living.

Participation is be open to all ages. MEmorial will become a collection of objects representative of the public as it sees itself now. Please bring an object to commemorate your life.

How can I participate?

MEMorial will be installed on the fence and sidewalk at the intersection of York and Front Streets in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The installation will begin at 4pm on Friday, September 24th and will be open until 3pm, Sunday, September 26th.

To reach the intersection of York & Front streets, take the F train to York Street. Exit the station and turn right and walk down the hill until you reach Front Street. Turn left and walk 4 1/2 blocks, past Gleason's Boxing Gym and the 7 Star Deli. The intersection of York and Front streets will be on your left.
