EDUCATION + ENRICHMENT TO RURAL CRESTON

$284,000 Infusion Into a Boys & Girls Program at Creston Elementary School

This investment will ensure that youth in rural Creston will have a stable, reliable, and safe place to be after school with the potential for additional funding for programming when school is not in session.

The Club provides character and leadership development, education and career development, the arts, health and life skills, and sports, fitness, and recreation programming..

THE NEED. THE OUTCOME.

THE NEED

Boys and Girls Club programs and services will fill a much-needed gap by establishing the only after school programming onsite at Creston Elementary School.

32% of the students enrolled are minority
50% of students fall below reading and math proficiency levels
48% of students served are considered economically disadvantaged.

THE OUTCOME

At the end of the $284,000, three-year collaboration:

100% of the families in need will have access to afterschool services
95% graduation rate
90% of participants at or above grade level in math and literacy
If needs present themselves, establish a full-day, year-round program in perpetuity.

THE IMPACT.

The growth at Creston will be methodical with each phase of the programming rolled out based on community needs that present themselves. Sustainability for long-term operations will be achieved by well-planned, vetted and thoughtful funding partnerships.

The Road to Get Here

In 2012 we launched the first of several partnerships with the Boys and Girls Club. At the time one club was servicing 100 kids. Since then, the club has not only grown to serve kids year-round in 3 cities in the north county, but also underwent a successful regional merger with Santa Maria Valley Clubs, to become the Boys & Girls Club of the Mid Central Coast. By combining operations, they now have streamlined efficiencies as well as a greater footprint to serve.
