The Querrey InQbation Lab is excited to launch a series of programming to support and advance entrepreneurial activities based on Northwestern research. Scroll through the opportunities below to learn more about our Founder and FoundHer series, our INVOForward bootcamp for therapeutic projects, and our Open House.
The Founder Series at the Q Lab is an in-person seminar series focused on various financial and legal topics specific to start-up founders. These seminars will be conducted in-person at the InQbation Lab's Collaborative Space. The entire Northwestern community (faculty, researchers, post-docs, students, and NU startups) is welcome to register.
FoundHer at the Q Lab is focused on amplifying and supporting women academic innovators and entrepreneurs, particularly those who are in the early stages of their commercialization journeys. FoundHer programming includes a speaker series, panel discussions and workshops. The first two seminars are featured below. The entire Northwestern community (faculty, researchers, post-docs, students, and NU startups) is welcome to register. Programming also will include FoundHer Fellows, a faculty fellowship geared towards first-time entrepreneurs. Applications for the Fellows Program will be open soon.
INVOForward Therapeutics is a 7-week virtual bootcamp that equips faculty teams with an improved understanding of the elements necessary for creating a compelling data package and to help make projects competitive to various Northwestern accelerator/incubator opportunities as well as attract potential external partners or investors.

Dividing up the Pie: Equity Structures & Frameworks for Early-Stage Startups

DESCRIPTION: This talk with focus on common equity issues faced by early-stage startups. The presentation will cover the differences between shares, membership interests, incentive units, profit interests, and stock options. Additionally, a substantial portion of the presentation will cover strategies for resolving equity disputes and tips for determining the initial equity arrangements for a startup.

Fundraising Terms & Structures for Startups

DESCRIPTION: This talk will focus on common investment terms and structures for early-stage startups. The presentation will explain the basic principles of SAFEs and convertible notes as well as common legal terms found in term sheets for priced rounds. The talk will also cover the basic legal steps required to raise funding, such as securities filings after a funding round.

Next, you will learn how one of our woman faculty founders, Dr. Ruchi Gupta, has leveraged INVO resources to start her company, Yobee Care. Finally, you will have the opportunity to engage in an informal fireside chat with INVO professional staff to demystify technology transfer.

INVOForward Therapeutics: Building a Data Package

DESCRIPTION: INVOForward Therapeutics is geared towards Northwestern faculty who are interested in translating their academic research into a potential therapeutic. Faculty teams are mentored through this 7-week program to build a industry standard data package based on their research to be used for subsequent outreach efforts and/or funding opportunities. They work with experts to map out a strategy for developing potential therapeutics and meet weekly with experts in the pharma and investment communities who provide topic-focused advice, real-world examples, and live feedback.

DESCRIPTION: The pilot phase of renovations is wrapping up. The InQbation Lab is hosting an informal Open House for the Northwestern community. Please stop by the space, visit the 1st floor Collaboration Space and the 5th floor Resident Startup Labs and Offices, and learn about the various translational and entrepreneurial programs at the Q Lab. The Northwestern community is welcome.
