New Platform. New Capabilities.

It's time for everyone to dig in.

If you’ve been reading our newsletters, you're familiar with our new technology platform, which brings clinical and social data together into a single solution. However, you may not fully understand the many powerful capabilities that the new platform delivers.

That’s why we are embarking on a new series of articles that highlight specific features and capabilities that are now available to GaHIN members. Each month, we will highlight a handful of these so that all health and social care providers in Georgia have the information they need to take full advantage of what is now available from GaHIN.

  1. Single-sign-on: GaHIN is making it easier for members to work seamlessly with data directly from within their existing system, whether that system is an electronic health record (EHR) system or a custom system. With single-sign-on capabilities, users can instantly access clinical and social care data they need for a more complete picture of their patient or client.
  2. Building cohorts: Creating specific patient groupings, or cohorts, to identify and address certain risks or inequities among populations is a critical need for many health and social care providers. With GaHIN’s new platform, these providers can build cohorts based on virtually any clinical or non-clinical data element, such as diagnosis codes, geographics, and lab results. For example, GaHIN is currently helping to create cohorts of patients based on the presence of antibodies in the blood. Through the GaHIN clinical viewer, providers can easily identify patients with defined antibodies present with sickle cell disease, which must be considered in administering blood transfusions. At the point of care, lives can be saved by accessing this information.
  3. Unique patient identifier: Through its advanced algorithms, GaHIN’s new platform can create unique patient identifiers. Unlike many EHR systems that have assigned unique identifiers that can only see where a patient has been in its network or ecosystem, GaHIN allows providers to see the patient’s entire longitudinal history, no matter where they have previously received care. With more than 2.5 million patients in its Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), GaHIN enables all types of authorized providers to access more complete pictures of the patient or client they are serving in one single instance.

GaHIN Celebrates

National Immunization

Awareness Month

At GaHIN, we recognize the important role immunization data plays in helping healthcare providers get a more holistic picture of their patients’ immunization history and ensure public safety.

That’s why we actively promote our work with the Georgia Immunization Registry and the Georgia Department of Public Health. This Registry is designed to collect and maintain accurate, complete, and current vaccination records to promote effective and cost-efficient disease prevention and control.

GaHIN’s platform facilitates the capture and exchange of immunization data on behalf of its members to support this important goal. GaHIN makes it easy for providers to share the required data fields with or without an EHR system in place.

In addition to our platform offering this capability, GaHIN senior advisor Liz Hansen joined GaHIN members Dr. Jeffeory H. White and Dr. Kathryn Cheek on a panel with AIRA’s Senior Director of Health Informatics Mary Beth Kurilo at the recent Public Health Informatics Institute (PHII) Immunization Information Systems (IIS) Leadership workshop. The team spoke about the value of healthcare providers having access to immunization data, which too often never gets entered into the EHR system.

GaHIN On The Go

GaHIN team members are constantly on the move, working with different groups across the state to identify new ways its clinical and social care data can be used to help providers achieve whole-person care. Here's what's coming up:

GAAAP: GaHIN’s Liz Hansen, senior advisor, and Shirelle King, program manager of social care integration, will be speaking at the GAAAP Fall Conference 2024 on the topic of “Applying Technology to Bridge the Gap between Pediatric Health and Social Determinants of Health.” The presentation will help attendees better understand the impact of social needs on pediatric health and identify the technical solutions and resources available today in Georgia to develop an SDOH Integration Strategy.

CIVITAS: Civitas Networks for Health is the national organization of health information exchanges. Several GaHIN team members will be on hand at the October 2024 Annual Civitas National Convention: “Bridging Data and Doing” to connect with their peers and swap ideas on how HIEs can continue to pioneer innovations to help their states achieve greater health outcomes and care efficiencies for their citizens.
