Launching a New Partnership with 826 Digital!

Today we are thrilled to announce the launch of a new Life Stories Learning partnership with 826 National, the largest youth writing network in the country!

The 826 Network provides K–12 students in under-resourced communities with high-quality writing and publishing programs through its local chapters and its online platform 826 Digital, reaching hundreds of thousands of students from all fifty states and sixty countries.

Over the past six months we've partnered with 826 as they adapted lessons from Teaching The Thread. Their amazing collection of new writing lessons are now freely available in the Watch and Write section of their website and coming soon to our Life Stories Learning page.

The Silent Witness Emmy Nomination

The Silent Witness: A Survivor's Story of Hiroshima was just nominated for an Emmy! The film was selected as a finalist for the 2024 News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Documentary. This is Life Stories' first Emmy nomination, and we're both honored and appreciative to be able to share Tomiko Morimoto West’s story of survival as a 13-year-old girl in Hiroshima in the aftermath of the atomic bombing while spreading her message of peace.

New Release: David Brooks Interview

As society grapples with an alarming surge in loneliness, disconnection, and isolation, David Brooks has dedicated the last four years to studying how to truly know a person. Life Stories co-founder Teddy Kunhardt sat down with the journalist, author, and political commentator in a new thought-provoking interview now available on YouTube.

Brooks shares seemingly small, yet transformative, everyday actions we can take to ‘see’ others which, in turn, can help us better understand ourselves. By exploring topics such as the art of having a good conversation, the value of deep friendship, and the societal importance of fostering trust, Brooks provides a roadmap for improving and navigating our social interactions and, ultimately, our democracy.

This fall, Life Stories Learning will distribute a companion resource that helps viewers engage with Brooks’ ideas on a deeper level and put them into practice.

The Thread Season One Recap

The Thread, Life Stories’ original series concluded Season One with Father Greg Boyle, Welcoming the Unwelcome. Father Boyle reflects, "It's still going to get you to exactly where you want to get, especially at this time where there's such tribalism and polarizing and huge gulfs and divisions that, you know, love, it's still the fastest route." His episode continues to resonate with audiences with over 60k views on Instagram and thousands more on our YouTube channel.

Darren Walker, President of the Ford Foundation, announced recently that he will be stepping down in 2025 from this role. His episode Hope and Courage in Action opens with this timely message: "Hope is the oxygen of democracy. When we have more hope, we will have a better democracy. But in order to generate hope, people have to believe in something." You can watch the entire Season One on YouTube and as a podcast on all major platforms. Stay tuned! Season Two will launch in October.
