Embracing Leadership Change

The new fiscal year begins with a change in leadership at Oxnard College. The Foundation extends a big welcome to Dr. Roberto Gonzalez as the new Oxnard College President.

Dr. Roberto Gonzalez

Dr. Gonzalez comes to Oxnard College after serving as the vice president of student services, enrollment management and equity initiatives at West Los Angeles College and a former dean at Santa Monica College. He earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Southern California.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to have been selected to lead Oxnard College,” said Dr. Gonzalez. “I look forward to serving all the members of our community including students, faculty, classified professionals and administrators. I am eager to play a role in enhancing the outstanding academic programs, academic and student services and resources we provide to our students.”

Thank You, Dr. Cobian

For the past two years, Dr. Oscar Cobian has been a strong supporter of the OC Foundation. In addition to guiding Oxnard College in an impressive direction, he worked with the Foundation to create new funding opportunities, introduce community leaders to campus programs, and open exciting doors for OC alumni.

His leadership earned him the prestigious Pacific Coast Business Times' 2024 Educator of the Year Award. He will be recognized at its upcoming Latino Business Awards.

We're excited that Dr. Cobian will continue to change lives at Oxnard College as Vice President of Student Development.

Closing a remarkable 2023/2024 fiscal year

The month of June is a month to restore and refresh for many people. The OC Foundation took advantage of the month to put the finishing touches on an amazing year, while setting goals for the next. The recent fiscal year was marked by a few highlights, including:

  • Awarding $275,000 in scholarship grants
  • Providing $144,000 in campus program support
  • Adding seven committed campus and community leaders to the board
  • Attracting a record 528 donors
  • Hosting a community-impacting Latino economic conversation
  • Co-coordinating five successful campus/community events
  • Hosting four successful Community Marketplace special events
  • Recruiting a record number of scholarship application reviewers

Thank You

The OC Foundation thanks the extraordinary donors, volunteers, board members, and staff who played a significant role in creating opportunities for students to not only achieve success, but pursue their educational and professional dreams.

Big plans are in store for 2024/2025!

2024/2025 is off to a great start!

The OC Foundation Board of Directors kicked off the new fiscal year at its June full board meeting. They approved an exciting plan to increase financial support, community engagement, and a campus-wide initiative. Highlights include:

Alumni Network

We're embarking on a mission to bring Oxnard College graduates and past students back to the Nest. No matter where they live, OC alumni are able to inspire current students through mentorship, recruit students and graduates to appealing jobs, reestablish relationships amongst each other and the school, and provide charitable support for campus programs and scholarships. We want to know where our alumni live and where they're working. We also want to hear and share their stories.

Campus Programs

Between donations and additional Foundation support, 20 campus programs received financial support last fiscal year. The Foundation is committed to continuing the support of these programs and working with others to impact every student. Community members may receive invitations to attend events and make donations. If you receive an invitation, please consider providing direct support of these programs.

Scholarships

Though we awarded a record amount in scholarship grant funds, the need is much greater. The Foundation will be working with donors to bolster existing scholarships and creating new funds. We hope to double the amount awarded in the very near future. If you wish to learn more, visit our scholarships webpage.

50th Anniversary

Oxnard College is celebrating its 50th birthday throughout the 2025/2026 school year. Committees are forming and plans are developing to host a number of special events, create lasting impressions, and reconnect alumni, past faculty and staff, and engage the greater community on this historic celebration. We're also collecting memorabilia, photos, news clippings, anything that helps paint a picture of the past 50 years. We'll share more information very soon. In the meantime, if you're interested in volunteering, click the official signup form.

Special Events

The Foundation is excited to host or co-coordinate special events throughout 2024/2025. Each event presents unique opportunities to engage the campus and greater communities. One of them is through corporate sponsorships. If you're interested in sponsoring our Dia de los Muertos, Family Festival, Athletic Hall of Fame, and other key events, contact Pete Parker for details.

These five areas will generate the community leadership, mentorship, and financial support to make a difference in the life of each student attending Oxnard College. Bookmark www.OxnardCollegeFoundation.org to keep current with the latest information and opportunities.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Deadline to create a scholarship is September 15

As volunteers are currently reviewing and selecting scholarship grant recipients for the 2024/2025 school year, we're already making plans for the next round of scholarships.

Scholarship grants change lives in extraordinary ways. Students seeking meaningful and productive futures rely upon financial assistance to get into the classroom, absorb high quality education, then pursue further education and obtain desirable employment. The vast majority of our 7,000+ students qualify for financial aid. All of them are eligible for scholarship grant support.

Anyone can create a scholarship fund at Oxnard College. By working with Foundation, you can create immediate and life-altering change for OC students. If you wish to create a scholarship to be awarded for the 2025/2026 school year, the deadline to establish the fund is September 15. Contact Pete Parker in the Foundation office for details.
