Vaccine Updates

ACIP June Meeting

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recently held a meeting on June 26-28. Meeting topics included:

RSV (Adults) – Adults 75 years and older are recommended to receive a single dose of RSV vaccine, using shared clinical decision-making with their healthcare provider.

  • Adults aged 60 to 74 with chronic medical conditions or living in nursing homes are also recommended to receive a single RSV vaccine dose.

COVID-19 Vaccine – Individuals aged 6 months and older are recommended to receive the updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine, expected to be available in fall 2024.

Influenza Vaccine – Routine vaccination was recommended for everyone aged 6 months and older for the 2023–2024 season.

  • High-dose and adjuvanted influenza vaccines were recommended for solid organ transplant recipients aged 18-64.

Pneumococcal Vaccine (PCV21) – Merck’s Capvaxive™ (PCV21) is recommended as an option for adults aged 19 years and older already recommended to receive a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine.

Next Steps

If the CDC accepts these recommendations, they will be published in the MMWR within 90 days. This typically signals the insurance companies to begin paying for the newly recommended vaccines. We recommend reaching out to your major payers to make sure adequate payment is in place before incorporating a new vaccine into your schedule.

Enhanced Discounts

Merck Pricing

Beginning July 1, 2024, CPP members can now access enhanced savings on Merck’s Gardasil®9 and Vaxneuvance™ vaccine purchases.

Updated pricing sheets can be obtained by contacting the CPP office at cpp@nationwidechildrens.org.

Influenza Billing Codes for the 2024-2025 Season

As announced previously, all formulations of the 2024-2025 influenza vaccines will be trivalent this season. Therefore, billing codes for each of the vaccines have reverted to the trivalent set of CPT codes that was in place prior to quadrivalent formulations being available. Please see the updated guides from Sanofi and Seqirus and update your billing and coding processes accordingly!

2024 Payer Survey

Can you help us advocate for CPP member practices to receive prompt and proper payment for vaccines? Participating in this survey will also provide you with actionable insights into the financial health of your immunization services.

After completing the survey, participants will be able to answer key questions like:

  • Are you appropriately raising your fees when vaccine price increases go into effect?
  • Are your vaccine payments adequately covering your vaccine costs?
  • Is your practice taking advantage of advance pricing notices to order vaccines before prices increase?
  • How and when do you incorporate a new vaccine into your vaccine schedule?

Participants who complete the survey process will receive a $100 honorarium (provided as an Amazon gift card to the first 50 respondents, limit one per tax ID) as well as aggregated, de-identified data from all survey respondents. To get started click here.
