New This Week:
Detroit   @  the Capitol
Director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and screenwriter Mark Boal reteam for this docudrama commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Detroit Race Riots. Centering on the Algiers Motel incident, the film traces the history behind the tragic event where a group of black men and white women were terrorized, beaten (and some killed) by law enforcement. John Boyega, Will Poulter, Algee Smith, Jacob Latimore, Anthony Mackie, Jason Mitchell, Jack Reynor, Hannah Murray, Kaitlyn Dever, and John Krasinski star.
The Dark Tower  @  the Somerville
The last gunslinger (Idris Elba), is locked in an eternal battle with the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), trying to prevent him from toppling The Dark Tower, the key that holds the universe together. With the fate of worlds at stake, two men collide in the ultimate battle between good and evil.
Harold Lloyd stars in..
Grandma's Boy (1922)  @  the Capitol, August 3
Silent with live musical accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis
The residents of a small town organize a team to track down a killer on the loose. The town's entire male population joins the hunt, save one jittery youth (Harold Lloyd) who wants nothing to do with a murderer. He instead retreats to his grandma's house. She tells him a fantastic story that rouses his confidence, and hands him a talisman that supposedly holds the power of bravery. Unaware he's been given an ordinary piece of wood, he decides to chase the criminal by himself!

Dunkirk in 70mm @ the Somerville
What's The Big Deal with 70mm?
"Technically speaking, it's the best way to see a motion picture that's yet been invented," says David Kornfeld, head projectionist for the Somerville Theatre
in his interview with WGBH's Edgar B. Herwick III.

Click here to read more  of the interview and find out
why you should treat yourself to the big screen experience for Christopher Nolan's historical thriller about the Dunkirk evacuation during the early days of World War II.
